There's an important tip at the very end of this article: 

Healthy marital intimacy is an important part of a healthy marriage, especially so in the early and middle years of marriage. The nature and frequency of passion may change over the years, but its importance remains. As Kurlansky notes, “healthy sexual connection can increase your intimacy and bind you closer together.”

Intimacy is easy to put on the back-burner while dealing with the exhaustion of parenting, but unlike any other element in marriage (finances, emotional support, etc.) this intimacy can't be morally or ethically supplemented outside the marriage.  Too tired to balance the checkbook? Hire an accountant.  Too tired to fix that leaky pipe in the basement?  Ask a neighbor for help.  Too tired for sex?  You'd better not be hiring anyone or inviting the neighbors over to help.
