Pros & Cons of Fast Foods in School

Pros & Cons of Fast Foods in School | Fast Food | Scoop.it
Fast food is delicious and kids do love it, but there has been much debate about whether it should be served in cafeterias in grade schools and post-secondary schools alike.

Maddy Martini's insight:

Fast food in schools would definitely make meals more tasty but a lot less nutritious. Also, now a days, a lot more kids are at risk for obesity and offering them more food like this at school would increase their risk.

I wish our school cafeteria had way healthier food or at least fruit cups. Even though we do not stay in anymore I still wanna be able to get a snack from the cafeteria between classes to have as a snack but all that is there is greasy, gross food.

It would be a lot better if schools had healthier lunches, especially in high schools where kids are allowed to buy as much as they want and eat as much as they want. Even though healthy options might cost more it would be more beneficial in the long run.

Lift the cloak of secrecy around this E coli outbreak

Lift the cloak of secrecy around this E coli outbreak | Fast Food | Scoop.it

An eight-month outbreak of an uncommon type of E coli food poisoning left 250 people ill and one dead, with cases continuing to emerge until July of this year – but the public has only been told now. After six months of investigation by the Health Protection Agency, which has only just acknowledged the outbreak, the infection has ultimately been linked to people handling loose raw leeks and potatoes in their homes.

Maddy Martini's insight:

This article makes you kind of afraid to go out to eat and eat meat. You never really know if the meat is affected or not until after you eat it. Although, I do think meat should be checked if it is completely cooked before serving it. I know I do not want to die from eating infected meat.

Maddy Martini's insight:

This video shows what we are really putting in our body. Although something may taste good, we need to know what the nutritional value really is.

I don't think I will be eating chicken any time soon.

Chicken nuggets used to be so good until they said that it was also made of bone and cartilage.
Jake Sjodin's comment, April 8, 2014 1:05 PM
I always knew that there is not a whole lot of actual lean chicken in a nugget, but at least it is chicken parts and not pink slim filler.

Maddy Martini's insight:

This article makes you think if we were to do this in the US, how many kids would still want Happy Meals if they were not going to receive a toy. Although, books are a great alternative.

What a concept!

Michelle Lopez's comment, April 7, 2014 1:21 PM
If they'd put books in happy meal I fell like no kids would want to get a kids meal whatsoever. The point of a happy meal is having a little surprise for when you open up the box. No wayyyyyy I would I want to get a book.

Soon fast food resaurants will be in all of the schools in the world, and there will be no more health foods that our body needs.

Maddy Martini's insight:

Some people are upset that people want to serve fast food in schools and in hospitals but....if they do not buy anything from them, why does it affect them so much? Fast food and what you put into your body is in your control but you can not control what others put in theirs.

It's true that you choose what goes into your own body. It's still crazy that they have it in schools.
Cassandra Ortiz's comment, April 10, 2014 11:04 PM
I agree with you completely on how people really shouldn't be getting upset over there being fast food restaurants in hospitals and or schools, they are in control of their body and shouldn't look to blame others on what they chose to eat.
Melinda Pacey's curator insight, April 24, 2016 6:45 AM

I find the statistics in this article very disturbing. Only 1 percent of school students eat the recommended diet by following the dietary guidelines. I don't believe that any schools in Australia serve any big named fast food outlets within their school grounds, and thank goodness for that. This could be something to think about in regards to turning those disturbing statistics around.
