Dassault Systèmes Announces Couturier Collaboration, Apparel Magazine

Couturier collaboration
While Dassault Systèmes' corporate "If We" ad campaign is promoting its collaboration with couturier Julien Fournié on billboards in international airports, FashionLab and Julien Fournié are introducing the online Premier Showroom. This virtual showroom is a new way for Julien Fournié to get closer to his customers and followers, giving them access to his world and spirit in a new manner. They can now enter the designer"s universe in the online virtual world and live an experience they can access in this environment only. The Premier Showroom will be accessible to several people at the same time allowing them to meet and exchange with each other, and with Julien Fournié live when he is connected.

3D experience
Through this Premier Showroom, Julien Fournié and FashionLab are revealing new possibilities for online virtual tools in the fashion world, in which designers can experiment with new and innovative ways to showcase their activities and build their brand with today's consumers. After initially using 3D virtual tools to help design his collections faster and more efficiently, Julien Fournié is now experimenting with a new way of using 3D and the virtual world to showcase his work and the essence of his fashion house. 3D and the virtual world are, again, at the heart of this experience – offering the possibility to virtually discover or re-visit Julien Fournié's collections via a 3D Virtual model, or watch some of the designer's previous fashion shows on a virtual screen, in a virtual living room on the designer's virtual sofa.

Premier Showroom: a collaborative project
Premier Showroom is the latest development in the collaboration between the fashion designer and FashionLab. It represents the new chapter in their teamwork. Julien Fournié has imagined the design, the colors, the textures and shapes involved in this virtual showroom, including the setting in a futuristic atmosphere. Just like each and every detail contained in this experience, The FashionLab team made it happen.

Dassault Systèmes Customizes Portfolio with FashionLab, Connect Press

By Rita Stange, ConnectPress Managing Editor

Like many industries the fashion industry has elevated its products with 3D technology like 3D printing, CNC machining and laser scanning. They’ve even dabbled in product lifecycle management (PLM) systems and simulation. But one area the fashion industry hasn’t had much experience with is 3D modeling.
Dassault Systèmes is hoping to change that with their FashionLab product line, originally introduced last November, which they refer to as “a technology incubator dedicated to fashion designers and stylists to explore and test new concepts using 3D.”

[...]

Designers can sketch directly into a virtual 3D environment and play with styles, colors and materials; instead of creating physical prototypes each time. “This is a huge cost and time saver. It is also a way to make the design process more sustainable by cutting out the amount of materials wasted making mock-up after mock-up while trying to find the perfect combination of elements,” explained Bergeret.

[...]

ConnectPress has been watching updates over the last year and the cool things their customers are doing. To see examples head to the FashionLab website. Or to get involved visit the FashionLab Community go here.

Sci-fi fashion for chic geeks: How technology is changing clothes (Metro, London)

Dassault Systèmes’ FashionLab comprises thousands of computer tools embraced by stylists to create inch-perfect designs in 3D – saving them valuable time and cost in making samples.

Designer Julien Fournié says: ‘Fashion designers are often scared of technology, especially in haute couture – they think it will hinder the creative process and make the clothes less special and unique.

‘But the engineering team at Dassault Systèmes really listened to me and adapted the tools to my unique way of working.

‘Before, I had to sketch every drawing by hand many times over but that has all changed. It allows me to be more precise and takes care of many of the time-consuming tasks, which actually enhances my creativity by allowing me to focus on design.’

Meanwhile, the French company’s applications are also powering AR changing rooms so shoppers can try on clothes virtually in their living room or go interactive in store.

A camera photographs the shopper, displays designs on their digitised body and as they move, the 3D clothes move with them. You can then upload images to social-networking sites to get your friends’ opinions.

The developers say this is especially useful if you want to try on lots of items in a short space of time or the store doesn’t have your size or colour in stock.

And how about creating an avatar that automatically selects clothes it thinks will suit you? These are all advances being driven by the falling cost of computer hardware.

FashionLab director Jerôme Bergeret adds: ‘Our mission is to develop 3D virtual modelling and collaborative tools that meet the needs of this industry and enable it to master the end-to-end creative process, from styling to final buyer.’

Attitude-STHLM met les créateurs français à l'honneur à Stockholm

Attitude-STHLM met les créateurs français à l'honneur à Stockholm | FashionLab | Scoop.it
