Censorship in India: Court Tells Facebook to Delete “Anti-Religious” Posts: By Eugene Volokh A Delhi Court on Sa...

In Farenheit 451 firemen were created to abolish controversial ideas and keep the media censored by burning books magazines bibles etc.. Montag was a fireman but after meeting a young girl named Clarisse he began to question his way of life and thought there must be something more behind these books if people were willing to risk their lives for them. After his chief explained the past of books and the reason they must be burned Montag was still not so convinced that books were completely useless because if the abolishment of books was supposed to keep everyone happy than why wasn’t he happy? Beatty had said "you must understand that our civilization is so vast that we cant have our minorities upset and stirred. Ask yourself, what do we want in this country above all? People want to be happy, isn’t that right?.... Colored people dont like Little Black Sambo. Burn it. White people don’t feel good about Uncle Toms Cabin. Burn it. Someone's written a book about tobacco and cancer of the lungs? The cigarette people are weeping? Bunt the book.” (pg 59)

As seen in the article, courts in India plan to censor more than 200 cites for “anti religious” content. This is a lot like Farenheit 451 because religious minorities are offended and “unhappy” about the content in some cites so the easiest solution is just to delete the offensive information. The firemen burned books because deleting the sources of controversy kept the people happy and at peace just as India’s courts plan to delete the offensive information from the internet to keep people happy. Our society is becoming just like Montags because people would rather erase the problem rather than face reality and deal with the consequences.
