All lanes of Interstate 40 in Jefferson County have reopened after a fatal accident Friday morning involving a pedestrian and a semi truck.

Outsource Driving Tests in States

Outsource Driving Tests in States | EZ Driving Test blog | Scoop.it

New Jersey’s young-driver law, which requires novice motorists to display a red decal on their cars’ license plates, doesn’t violate privacy protections, the New Jersey Supreme Court ruled. The state’s highest court rejected a challenge to the statute, known as Kyleigh’s Law, which argued the provision unfairly singles out a class of motorists in the state, where the driving privileges for young motorists expand in stages, and violates constitutional protections.
The law properly covers only “the group of drivers who are at specific stages of New Jersey’s graduated driver’s license system, which governs only drivers who have permits or licenses issued by this state,” the court concluded. Kyleigh’s Law was designed to improve safety for teenage drivers by making them easily identifiable to police. The statute, which continue

Ford Escape Sleek for Test Drive

Ford Escape Sleek for Test Drive | EZ Driving Test blog | Scoop.it

Ford Motor remade its Escape compact SUV so thoroughly that only the name and one engine carry over into the 2013. The 2013 even is made at a different factory, now in Louisville, instead of near Kansas City, Mo. The boxy old Escape was a big seller for Ford, so starting over was a risk. The new version hit showrooms in June and sales that month jumped 28% from a year ago, according to Autodata. But sales tumbled nearly 12% in July. The July slip was at least partly because of recalls. One recall is because the carpet might interfere with the brake pedal. The other one is for potential fire risk in models with the 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine, the one that most people are expected to choose. Ford banned dealers from selling those models until they were fixed. Ford is telling owners not to drive them and is having dealers pick up the vehicles to fix them continue

A man was sitting on a lawn sunning and reading, when he was startled by a fairly late model car crashing through a hedge and coming to rest on his lawn. He helped the elderly driver out and sat her on a lawn chair. “Yes” she replied,” I am old enough that I don’t need a license anymore. The last time I went to my doctor he examined me, and asked if I had a drivers license. I told him yes and handed it to him. He took scissors out of a drawer, cut the license into pieces and threw them in the wastebasket. “You won’t be needing this anymore,” he said So I thanked him and continue

Parents who have had their driver’s license suspended for nonpayment of child support can get their license restored through a program offered by Trinity County Department of Child Support Services.
“Get Back on the Road Again” targets parents who have had their license suspended because they did not meet their full child support obligations. The program is available to parents with child support cases in all California counties during August. “We want to assist the parent who may be having a tough time financially, but wants to do the right thing for his or her children,” said Robin McStay, director of the Trinity Country Department of Child Support Services.
“We recognize that people need their license to be able to work,” she said. Under a 1996 California law, noncustodial parents who do not pay their child support may have their driving license suspended until they bring their payments current continue

Tractor-Trailer Hits Vehicles in Upstate Work Zone | EZ Driving Test blog | Scoop.it

Six people, including three children, were killed on an upstate road on Thursday when a tractor-trailer rear-ended a vehicle in a work zone and caused a chain-reaction crash, the State Police said. Five of those killed were riding in a sport utility vehicle that was part of the crash and which burst into flames after it was hit, Trooper Jack Keller said. The tractor-trailer ran into the back of one vehicle, causing collisions with a State Transportation Department truck and the S.U.V., which was registered in New York. The vehicles had stopped or were moving slowly because of road repaving on Route 11 in the Jefferson County town of Antwerp. The driver of the Transportation Department truck was Lewis Lottie Jr., 44, of Nicholville, N.Y., Trooper Keller said, and he was flown to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse with head and chest injuries. Louisiana Road Rules Take Effect

Louisiana Road Rules Take Effect | EZ Driving Test blog | Scoop.it

Louisiana law enforcement will begin enforcing multiple new rules on Wednesday, Aug. 1, which cover trucks, first-time drivers, uninsured vehicles and drunken driving. One new law will bring Louisiana’s commercial driver’s licensing rules in compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. Lengthier license suspensions will be imposed for drivers caught violating an out-of-service order. Getting behind the wheel of a truck subject to an OOS order will result in the driver’s license being suspended for six months. Currently, state law authorizes 90-day suspensions. Louisiana law already prohibits texting while driving any vehicle. The change specifically prohibits the distracting activity while driving truck. State law already authorizes towing of uninsured vehicles when a driver cannot provide proof of insurance on second and subsequent violations. Last October a massive landslide destroyed a half-mile section of SR-14. UDOT’s construction contractor, Kiewit Western Co., successfully opened the road by Memorial Day, ahead of schedule. But slope instability in the west end of the project area required UDOT and Kiewit to expand the scope and duration of the work. “We’ve basically got weak layers that are hidden and very difficult to isolate,” says UDOT Senior Geologist David Fadling. An investigation of the slide area was completed during the design phase of the project. Hundreds of feet of six inch diameter borings were drilled, but the weak layers were still difficult to detect. “Unfortunately we were not able to find out where this weak layer was until we started to excavate for it.” The steep terrain is causing other difficulty. Workers are excavating over 300 thousand cubic yards of dirt from the top of the slide area and placing it at the toe in order to stabilize the slope. “The terrain is extremely difficult to access,” says Fadling continue

Drunk Driving & License suspension does not go far Enough

Drunk Driving & License suspension does not go far Enough | EZ Driving Test blog | Scoop.it

Cadillac needed an entry car more like the BMW 3 Series. Instead of adapting hardware from General Motors’ German Opel brand, as GM has done lately, Cadillac started from scratch and came up with the ATS. It’s the smallest, lightest, least-expensive Caddy and the only one offering four-cylinder engines. It is most definitely not a repeat of the best-forgotten Cimarron of the 1980s, a once-over-lightly Caddy redo of the small, four-cylinder Chevrolet Cavalier that fooled no one and pleased even fewer. ATS, on sale late summer, might lack the purely Germanic feel of a BMW or Audi, but ATS is roundly satisfying to drive. It provides crisp handling, quick acceleration, snappy braking, responsive steering, entertaining technology and an alluring base price of $33,990. The average transaction price of a new car these days is $30,200, according to price tracker and researcher TrueCar.com. And the 3 Series that’s in Caddy’s continue

Chrysler Group LLC’s biggest U.S. investment in the year following its June 2009 bankruptcy exit is about to show up under more of its hoods: transmissions with additional gears to improve performance and boost fuel economy. Eight-speed transmissions, more common in luxury vehicles made by the likes of BMW AG and Volkswagen AG’s Audi, will spread throughout Chrysler’s lineup beginning late this year, said Mircea Gradu, vice president of transmission powertrain and driveline engineering. The company will introduce the industry’s first nine-speed transmissions by the first half of 2013, he said. “I’m convinced that, sooner or later, others will come up with similar solutions,” Gradu said. “Hopefully, the time will be as long as possible until they catch up with the technology.” While rivals tout hybrid cars, plug-in hybrids and pure electrics, CEO Sergio Marchionne is betting he can meet regulatory requirements continue

Lindsay Lohan Still Have A Drivers License | EZ Driving Test blog | Scoop.it

Although Lindsay Lohan’s latest car accident was pretty insignificant by itself, it could, in a more rational world, have been the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back where her driving privileges are concerned. Do we have to wait for her to kill someone before the Golden State takes away her license? At the very least, her car insurance must be ridiculous. Lohan and driving were enough of a concern for Lifetime producers to specify that she couldn’t operate a motor vehicle while they were filming Liz & Dick, in which Lohan starred as Elizabeth Taylor (the insurance for the picture would have been too high). Just this year, she’s been involved in three accidents, one of them a hit and run. Lindsay Lohan and cars don’t appear to mix well, but let’s let history be continue
