63% of readers don't care about comments, but engagement tools are here to stay

63% of readers don't care about comments, but engagement tools are here to stay | Experience Optimism | Scoop.it

Publishers and pundits talk a lot about the importance of reader engagement to the future of news. However, an Ad Age/Ipsos Observer showed that most news consumers do not like the tools. This was a breath of fresh air for me, because I really cannot stand "ireporting," "citizen journalism," or whatever an outlet is calling it. While these pieces show what's happening right in front of the viewer, they are horrible at providing the in-depth analysis I crave. Same goes for comments on stories and web posts.

Call me an old soul because, according to the survey, most Baby Boomers feel the same way. However, Gen Y, Millennial and the now names "iGen" love "engagement tools," which means they are not going anywhere anytime soon.

Because She Said So: Covenant House: Stand Up For Street Kids! | Experience Optimism | Scoop.it

Homelessness can be looked at in both micro and macro levels to determine all of the cons that apply .. especially when there are kids involved. The street isn't a place anyone should call home. Unfortunately, for street kids, it is. Enduring a life of neglect, abuse and an unstable caregiving environment, a lot of kids end up on the street to fend for themselves.
