Kendra Kunwar's insight:

Amadablam is popularly known as the ‘Matterhorn of the Himalaya’. It is named after the glacier on its southwest face. The glacier looks like a jewel box hanging on the neck of the mountain, hence the name Amadablam, literally meaning ‘The Mother’s Jewel Box’. Amadablam lies in the north eastern region of Nepal in a beautiful Khumbu glacier.

Edmund Hillary scaled the mountain for the first time. The route through the South-Western Ridge is the standard route to Amadablam. As though, the experienced mountaineer will find the South East Ridge, at its easiest, a real challenge. Amadablam is one of the most beautiful peaks to be climbed. Lhotse is recognized as the fourth highest mountain in the world. It was first ascended in 1956 as an alternative route towards the summit of Everest by Swiss climbers Ernest Reiss and Fritz Luchsinger. The same Swiss party made the second ascent of Everest in 1956 from a camp just below the South Col. Mount Lhotse lies just to the south of Everest, and is also known as “South peak”.

Lhotse is connected with South Col to Mount Everest. Lhotse Shar, which is immediately east of the main summit, and Nuptse, a high peak on the mountain’s west ridge. Lhotse is formed up by the Lhotse East or middle, Lhotse Shar and Lhotse. Lhotse expedition through the south face is incredibly steep, and few climbers have attempted it.
