The implementation of an Enterprise Geographical Information System to support Cadastre and Expropriation activities.

The implementation of an Enterprise Geographical Information System to support Cadastre and Expropriation activities. | Everything is related to everything else | Scoop.it

Abstract

The processes of mobilization of land for infrastructures of public and private domain are developed according to proper legal frameworks and systematically confronted with the impoverished national situation as regards the cadastral identification and regularization, which leads to big inefficiencies, sometimes with very negative impact to the overall effectiveness.

This project report describes Ferbritas Cadastre Information System (FBSIC) project and tools, which in conjunction with other applications, allow managing the entire life-cycle of Land Acquisition and Cadastre, including support to field activities with the integration of information collected in the field, the development of multi-criteria analysis information, monitoring all information in the exploration stage, and the automated generation of outputs. The benefits are evident at the level of operational efficiency, including tools that enable process integration and standardization of procedures, facilitate analysis and quality control and maximize performance in the acquisition, maintenance and management of registration information and expropriation (expropriation projects). Therefore, the implemented system achieves levels of robustness, comprehensiveness, openness, scalability and reliability suitable for a structural platform.

The resultant solution, FBSIC, is a fit-for-purpose cadastre information system rooted in the field of railway infrastructures.

FBSIC integrating nature of allows: to accomplish present needs and scale to meet future services; to collect, maintain, manage and share all information in one common platform, and transform it into knowledge; to relate with other platforms; to increase accuracy and productivity of business processes related with land property management.

In the past six years or so, close to 800 universities have created more than 8,000 of these MOOCs. And I’ve been keeping track of these MOOCs the entire time over at Class Central, ever since they rose to prominence.

What’s the matter with NDVI? You are!

What’s the matter with NDVI? You are! | Everything is related to everything else | Scoop.it
"Andrew Robson Associate Professor with the Precision Agriculture Research Group (PARG)

Agree with your article with the added point that NDVI is consistently the most versatile VI to identify variability in plant/ tree vigour. The exceptions are extremely high biomass ( or LAI) or nutrition , where as you mentioned the values saturate. NDVI maps are just the starting point for understanding variability, it is the subsequent grountruthing, calibration with additional VIs and algorithm development (spectral values into parameters of economic importance ) that offers the greatest benefit. No matter what index you use, it's relationship to crop parameters will be influence by cultivar (crop geometry), season, growing location and varying abiotic and biotic constraints. As long as you understand this and don’t try and ‘sell’ NDVI as the complete solution but rather as a highly useful tool, then it's potential will better understood. Cheers"

OBIA and Point Clouds

OBIA and Point Clouds | Everything is related to everything else | Scoop.it
Object-based Image Analysis (OBIA) has been developed to improve the accuracy of conventional, pixel-based classification of multispectral images. Introduced around the year 2000 and implemented in various software packages such as eCognition, OBIA has been successfully applied for mapping land cover, forest and agricultural areas. Today, not only high-resolution multispectral images are available but increasingly also high-density 3D point clouds captured by airborne Lidar. Is OBIA also suited for the semi-automatic classification of Lidar point clouds? The author highlights promising prospects.

This map will take you to an amazing journey throughout 2000 years of human population - Geoawesomeness | Everything is related to everything else | Scoop.it
Historical maps never cease to amaze me. The only problem I have with them is that they are mostly static or they are focusing on a single event without showing the full context.

Team from populationeducation.org felt the same way, and they came up with nice project, which meets expectations of many GeoGeeks like you and me. The website called “World Population History” is an interactive map that lets you explore 2000 years of our planet’s population density on the top of other data. Data gathered for this project comes from hundreds of sources that includes, books, articles and online databases. Furthermore, the map show forecasts of for the further population growth in the next 100 years, which is really awesome. The idea for the project came from a popular teaching resource video “dots on a map”, representing population changing through time.

The methods we use to teach physical geography and environmental science are rapidly changing. As a new generation of high-quality affordable drones creates a revolution in the way that schools collect, process and view landscape data, Dr Steve Boreham of the Department of Geography at the University of Cambridge takes us through the ins and outs of flying drones for research
Drones, also known as un-manned aerial vehicles (UAV) have been undergoing a quiet transformation from the crash-prone toys and expensive high-end instruments of five years ago into the fully-featured, reliable and relatively inexpensive survey tools of today.

Making a Giant Leap Toward Smart Irrigation with SuperGIS ~ GIS Gig | Everything is related to everything else | Scoop.it
Geographic Information System (GIS) is becoming extremely popular nowadays for its capability of solving problems in the domains like cadastre management, network analysis, location selection, spatial statistics, etc. to name just a few. Without a doubt, GIS has great potential for any kinds of analysis focusing on discover spatial relationships. As the global population increases rapidly, governments worldwide are all concerned about issues of land use and crop supply. Therefore, to improve the crop yield under limited resources effectively turns out to be the common vision of agriculture in different countries.

Constructing Very High Resolution Satellite Data Surface Models

Constructing Very High Resolution Satellite Data Surface Models | Everything is related to everything else | Scoop.it
A digital surface model (DSM) is a common photogrammetric product which is widely applied in the areas of surveying and mapping as well as geographic information systems (GIS). In line with the invention of the semi-global matching (SGM) algorithm by H. Hirschmueller in 2005, stereo pairs are matched pixel-wise, leading to a very dense DSM. Very high resolution satellite (VHRS) imaging sensors provide stereo images at up to 0.3m ground sampling distance (GSD). The major advantage of VHRS data is that the data coverage is much larger than that of classical airborne data. Therefore VHRS imagery is a promising option to generate 3D point clouds and DSMs.
