Issues around IMpact - Nonprofit Journalism

VirtualAnne Whatley's insight:

The quest for measurement in the social sectorhas accelerated in recent years. Non-profits faceincreasing pressure for quantifiable results fromnumerous stakeholders. Funders are attractedby the potential of journalism to spur change;some have imported or adapted business methodsinto their work, talking of “investments’’ and“returns.’’ Increasingly, executives at these non-profits come from business backgrounds and arecomfortable seeing results in numbers ratherthan words. The news media note the non-profitsector’s increasing size and occasionally seek a

greater semblance of accountability.

Evaluation of Outcomes | National Council of Nonprofits

Organizations that are serious about their theory of change engage in regular self-assessment and evaluation of outcomes. The results of measuring outcomes can be shared with stakeholders to illustrate the impact of an organization's programs and activities, and to demonstrate the difference the organization is making in its community and in peoples' lives. Seeing the difference an organization is making on paper, in video, through testimonials -- is powerful. To be successful a nonprofit must embrace a culture that supports outcomes thinking. This is not as daunting as it sounds. - See more at: http://www.councilofnonprofits.org/resources/resources-topic/evaluation-and-measurement#sthash.5NILM8vN.dpuf
