Voar Travel's insight:

If you visit Prague you have the chance to participate in a fresh start. The John Lennon wall, which is a famous platform for taggers and street artists, was erased by art students in late November. Until then, the wall was covered in colorful graffiti and paintings of its namesake since his assassination in 1980. The wall looks completely different each year as new artists add their mark. So grab a trdelnik and some hot wine and mosey on over to the John Lennon wall to see what new art replaces what the art students washed away. (Erin Roman)

The hall of Mirrors - Palace of Versailles

The hall of Mirrors - Palace of Versailles | European Travels | Scoop.it

Via Joy Kinley
Voar Travel's insight:

How can I put into words the beauty of Palace of Versailles.... It is the most over-the-top, painstakingly embellished, extravagantly decorated, extensively luxurious palace I have ever stepped foot into. The ceilings depict various scenes of celestial beings and Greek mythology. Gold seems to be the common material and color used, and the bedrooms look like it could house God Himself. King Louis the XIV wanted his palace to reflect his legacy; they didn't call him the "Sun King" for nothing. Perhaps the most striking and ethereal room in this palace is the "Hall of Mirrors." Or as I'll put it, the "Hallway to God's Freaking Doorstep." Looking down this hallway you will be blown away by the intensity of its beautiful grandeur. Proceed with caution. (Chae Chung)

It is hard to imagine the wealth that was on display at the Palace of Versailles.  This had previously been a hunting lodge on the outskirts of Paris when it was remodeled at tax payers great expense.

Via Jukka Melaranta
Voar Travel's insight:

Visiting Prague? Consider taking a day trip to the nearby town of Terezin, which, unbeknownst to most, was a Nazi transit camp where Jews were held until they were transferred to Auschwitz or other camps. On the guided tour, you will visit the cemetery, crematorium and housing grounds where thousands of prisoners were kept. Among the prisoners were many very talented musicians and artists that created beautiful pieces of work, despite the horrible living conditions they found themselves in. (Erin Roman)

Gaze your mortal eyes upon the greatness that is the Louvre. Inside are thousands of art pieces, some made by Michelangelo, Da Vinci, and many more. Some of the most famous pieces are the Mona Lisa and Venus di Milo. Cannabis enthusiasts, a word of caution: Weed is illegal in Amsterdam. But there is a grey area in the Netherlands that allows the existence of "coffeeshops" so if you're in the mood for a quick "coffee break" then you've come to the right city. Choose from a wide variety of strains and relax with good company at one of these locations. Here, you can safely buy herbs that aren't laced with other questionable things. See the dark part of history, climb through the "Secret Annex" and find yourself questioning humanity... When you search for things to do in Ireland, visiting the Cliffs of Moher is often at the top of the list. However, the cliffs are about three hours away from Dublin, it's expensive to get to them and you may not even have a good view due to cloudy and rainy weather. Here's an alternative: take the train a half hour to Howth! This quaint little town is home to breathtaking cliffs along the water. A trail leads you all the way around the city and you may run in to a local Irishman willing to give you and a small group a free tour. Architectural Columns Explode into Organic Forms at the Palais de Tokyo

Architectural Columns Explode into Organic Forms at the Palais de Tokyo | European Travels | Scoop.it

Recently installed at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, this gigantic Gordian Knot was constructed by Brazilian artist Henrique Oliveira, known for his near complete organic transformations of interior and exterior spaces.  Titled Baitogogo, the work depicts an architectural grid of columns and support beams that seem to morph into a chaotic tangle of branches or roots.

Through a kind of architectural anthropomorphism, Henrique Oliveira reveals the building’s structure. At Palais de Tokyo, he plays on the space’s existing and structuring features, prolonging and multiplying pillars in order to endow them with a vegetable and organic dimension, as though the building were coming alive.

Musée d'Orsay | Impressionism and Fashion

Musée d'Orsay | Impressionism and Fashion | European Travels | Scoop.it

Paris | 25.09.2012 -20.01.2013

"Anxious to account for contemporary life, Impressionism favoured the representation of human figures in their daily surroundings and captured the "modern" man in his routine activities, both in cities and in the countryside.

Although they did not strive to render scrupulously the physiognomy, costume or habit, the Impressionists nevertheless accounted for the fashions and attitudes of their times. They achieved this through their keenness to consider the portrait as a snapshot of a person in his/her familiar settings, through their ability to renew the genre works from the double point of view of typology and topography and above all through their attention to the "daily metamorphosis of exterior things", as Baudelaire put it.
With their aesthetic positions, the reality of men and women of the years between 1860 and 1880 and their clothes underwent an undisputable transfiguration."
