Phil Mickelson wins Scottish Open

Phil Mickelson wins Scottish Open | European tour golf | Scoop.it
Posted by Kyle Porter - July 14, 2013 "Phil Mickelson won the Scottish Open on Sunday with a final-round 3-under-par 69 plus a playoff hole with South African Branden Grace. Mickelson held off Grace by one at Inverness, Scotland after he birdied the first playoff hole and Grace parred it. Lefty made it more difficult than it needed to be, though. When needing a par on the 72nd hole, he did his best Phil Mickelson impression and three-putted from 20 feet for bogey to put himself into the playoff with Grace, who had already finished. Mickelson then nearly holed out his third shot (a wedge) on the 607-yard, par-5 playoff hole. He tapped in for an easy birdie, and Grace missed his long birdie. Here's a look at the chip: The win is Mickelson's first in Europe since 1993, when he won the Tournoi Perrier de Paris in France though it's his eighth European Tour victory (Masters, PGA Championship and World Golf events are included). As usual, Mickelson provided some great drama with the final-hole bogey and crazy chip on the playoff hole. The fans in Great Britain ate it up, too. They loved his candor, his honest shots and, well, his Phil-ness." ...
Ty Findlow's insight:
I think this was good for Phil. He doesn't play at the top of his game in Scotland. So, that was big boost for him to win the Scottish open. Then he went on to win the British Open which was also in Scotland. The Scottish open win was a confidential boost.

Ty Findlow's insight:
PGA and European Tour finale ends the year off with the Race to Dubai and the Fed Ex Cup. Each of them are intense and nerve-racking. They both depend on the rankings from the year with tournaments that have been played. For example the 21 year old Jordan Spieth is ranked number 10 in the Fed Ex Cup. That means that he gets to go play in a tournament to finish of the Cup. The top 70 qualify for the tournament. Jordan just recently won the John Deere classic.
