Priceline CEO setzt auf Google statt auf Social Media

Priceline CEO setzt auf Google statt auf Social Media | eTourism Trends and News | Scoop.it

The most notable trends and topics from World Travel Market 2018: Hotels with consistent, positive, and recent reviews enjoy better reputations - and revenue

Hotels with consistent, positive, and recent reviews enjoy better reputations - and revenue.

We noticed a pattern across sessions: hotels that blend modern technology with classic hospitality perform best. By using technology, such as reputation management tools, and combining it with a focus on staff training and retention, hotels improve their reputations over time. This improvement creates a virtuous flywheel: a better reputation means higher OTA rankings, which means more bookings, which means more opportunities to deliver an exceptional guest experience that results in glowing reviews.

The scale of location tracking by our smartphone apps has been exposed

The scale of location tracking by our smartphone apps has been exposed | eTourism Trends and News | Scoop.it
An investigation by the New York Times has revealed the sheer scale of how our location is tracked by apps on our smartphones.

The findings: Several businesses claim they can track about half the mobile devices in the US, with precise locations updated up to 14,000 times a day in some cases. This data is sold or analyzed for advertising and retail, among other uses. Sales of location-targeted advertising reached an estimated $21 billion this year, and it’s a growing market. The data is anonymized, but those with access to the raw data could easily identify someone without consent. Companies aren’t content with just tracking your location, either—they want to predict your future movements too, as this patent from Facebook shows.

Dwindling blockchain hype, the stagnation of voice and more travel tech predictions for 2019 | PhocusWire | eTourism Trends and News | Scoop.it
While no one, at least that I know, has a crystal ball that can see into the future, accurate forecasting - or the “making of predictions” - is an important aspect of business planning.

The factors that one needs to take into consideration when making informed predictions about the next year are many. Looking ahead to 2019, I thought it was important to weigh three key areas. First, how technology might impact the travel sector next year. Second, how demographic trends and consumer tastes will evolve. And third, how legal, economic and global trade issues will factor in.

Intelligence artificielle et machine learning s’installent durablement dans notre quotidien – | eTourism Trends and News | Scoop.it
