I've been a Dyson owner for about 10 years now and have always found the company to be extremely innovative with their products (how about those hand driers or blade-less fans... amazing inventions).

This article demonstrates how thinking 'outside of the box' from an ergonomic standpoint can deliver a vacuum cleaner that is '...simply a joy to sweep around your furniture...'

They didn't get it all right though, the article reports that the removal of the second filter is 'tricky, requiring an awkward operation'.

I guess this just portrays one of the challenges of ergonomic design; creating a functional product that is ergonomically viable in all aspects.

I chose this scoop because of its reference to 'design'. It details the characteristics that that you need to consider during the design phase of an alarm display system and addresses why it is important to consider those characteristics.

It reinforced to me that design is an imperative part of the ergonomic process that if overlooked can hamper human interaction with equipment and machinery and lead to use error.

This article espouses the benefits of early human factor interaction (with respect to project development) and gave me my first insight into Early Human Factor Analysis (EHFA).

This article caught my eye based on:

  1. The identification of human factor domains;
  2. The suggestion that a collaborative approach which embraces intuitiveness and free thinking is required; and
  3. The goals associated with early human factor analysis.
