GOP New Mexico Secretary Of State Now Faces 65 Corruption Charges

GOP New Mexico Secretary Of State Now Faces 65 Corruption Charges | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
Dianna Duran, New Mexico's Republican secretary of state, was charged with identity theft on Friday, after previously being charged with 64 crimes related to fraud, embezzlement, and money laundering, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Duran (pictured above on the right) has been accused of using her campaign funds for personal expenses at casinos and jewelry stores. The latest criminal complaint from the New Mexico attorney general's office alleges that Duran forged the signature of a former stat
Kenneth Weene's insight:

Forget the politics and party affiliation. Obviously this woman is not functioning on all the cylinders. What is amazing is that she was elected and in office before her dysfunction was noticed. This goes to show how out of it American voters can be.

Petition Calls for Jon Stewart to Host a Presidential Debate

Petition Calls for Jon Stewart to Host a Presidential Debate | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
100,000 people have signed so far
Kenneth Weene's insight:

I think he'd do fine, but it would be an even better idea to have him do individual interviews with each candidate. Debates allow too much preparation and use of talking-points. Let's see how they respond to somebody pricking the balloon of their ego.

Why don’t Americans vote? We’re “too busy.”

Why don’t Americans vote? We’re “too busy.” | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
Don't act surprised.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

I want to run a very different reason by you. Could it be that the continuous political advertising drives many to feel that elections are just big used-car sales events? How many of us reach a point at which we are so sated with the claims and counter-claims that we just no longer care or see any difference? Were I running a campaign, I would put almost all the money and energy into creating direct contact with voters and spend as little as I could on the media circus. Oh, and the where that money comes from. Do candidates and parties really think that email after email and donation letter after donation letter makes me more likely to vote for them (or contribute)? I think they have that one backward, too. Please share your thoughts.

'As I Had Read In A Comment On Facebook—' Diane Rehm Responds To Sanders Furor

'As I Had Read In A Comment On Facebook—' Diane Rehm Responds To Sanders Furor | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
After an interview in which she incorrectly stated the presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) was a dual-Israeli-US citizen, NPR's Diane Rehm told TPM she made "a mistake" and got the information from Facebook.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

I listened to part of this interview and was very impressed with Senator Sanders. What struck me most was his ability to say things clearly. Saying "That's some of the nonsense that goes on in the Internet," to a major NPR radio host is an example of his straightforward approach. I don't know if he can win, but I know that he is elevating the process by his participation.

Can Hollywood help Martin O’Malley take on Hillary Clinton? | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
Hollywood delivered for Obama in 2008, but some have warmed to Clinton.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

At last we have a challenger for Hilary. Let's see if she can stand up to some active campaigning and questioning.

Clinton, despite stratospheric poll numbers, is very likely to face primary opposition | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
Despite her stratospheric poll numbers, the Democratic front-runner is likely to face a primary fight.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

I see a few names in the list of possible contenders I would prefer to Mrs. Clinton. How about you? Who would you like to see as the Democratic nominee?

Alabama tried a Donald Trump-style immigration law. It failed in a big way.

Alabama tried a Donald Trump-style immigration law. It failed in a big way. | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
Alabama backed off the 2011 measure, but the rise of Trump has given supporters a second wind.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

Since Trump is such a great businessman (I know he really isn't but that is what he claims.), shouldn't he demonstrate how easily a successful business can flourish in Alabama by setting one up in Alabama, doing careful background checks, and hiring all these fine Americans who support him because they "deserve a good job"? No need to kick all the "illegals" out, just show they aren't needed. Of course, we are talking about low-wage-workers in Alabama. Mr. Trump might just learn something about reality of the real world of Dr. Pepper, NASCAR, poor education, and meth-amphetamines. Not as  many employers are hiring illegal Mexicans because of wages (and those who do should be in prison) as because of the simple fact that few Americans (even those of Hispanic background) are prepared to do the jobs in question. If you don't know what I mean, try picking lettuce in Yuma.Heck, try to find somebody willing to take care of dairy cows in Vermont. But, I digress.

Bernie Sanders draws more than 7,500 people in Portland, Maine

Bernie Sanders draws more than 7,500 people in Portland, Maine | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
It's just the latest large crowd for the surging senator from Vermont.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

I love Sanders's challenge to the establishment within the Democratic party. That he is a good natured and even tempered man certainly makes him more attractive. More importantly, I want to have meaningful discussion within the parties, real contrasts among candidates and Mr. Sanders is helping to bring that about in the Democratic corner. On the Republican side, with all its candidates, I don't hear real debate and difference. I hope that they too will achieve real debate.

The 2016 presidential slogans, ranked | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
Defeat the lame, generic slogans. Unleash the patriotic ones.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

How do any of these slogans connect to the candidate? How do any of them connect to you, me, and the American voter in general? How about this one I would love to see used by current first choice, Martin O'Malley ?

Mitt’s “human being” experiment: Romney’s highly calculated strategy to show authenticity

Mitt’s “human being” experiment: Romney’s highly calculated strategy to show authenticity | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
On the third go-round, Mitt Romney wants America to see his true, natural self. This should be good ...
Kenneth Weene's insight:

Vanilla? If he really wants to get votes for being human he should have gone with ice cream that offered color, preferably a color that would clash with his dark blue, doesn't everybody dress like this, shirt. More importantly, he has no empathy, and I'm not sure he can fake that. This man is a true successor to Herbert Hoover. Don't get me wrong, Hoover was a great technocrat and probably a decent man. Just couldn't understand people and their needs.

G.O.P. Discovers Useful Voter Outreach Tool: Gun Sweepstakes | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
Online weapon giveaways have become one of the fastest growing ways for Republican candidates to build up donor lists and expand support.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

And all the Democrats ever offered me was a chance to have dinner with Barack Obama. Maybe I should become a Republican and get a gun. Sorry, but in my mind this is sick. (Not that the "dinner invitation" wasn't; I never responded to those appeals.)
