Top 10 Websites for Teaching

Top 10 Websites for Teaching | English with tech | Scoop.it
Using grammar correctly could be challenging may be not for those who are English native speaker, but surely for those who learn English from scratch. English language and its difficulties can be very much puzzling. Although, a dictionary or software can assist learners but it cannot give accurate answer. In fact, word processing programs are not very much effective in correcting grammar errors completely.

Apps that rise to the top: Tested and approved by teachers - Mind/Shift

Apps that rise to the top: Tested and approved by teachers - Mind/Shift | English with tech | Scoop.it
With the thousands of educational apps vying for the attention of busy teachers, it can be hard to sift for the gold. Michelle Luhtala, a savvy librarian from New Canaan High School in Connecticut has crowd-sourced the best, most extensive list of appsvoted on by educators around the country. “I wanted to make sure we had some flexibility because there’s no one app that’s better than all the others,” Luhtala said. Some apps are best for younger students, others are more complicated, better suited for high school students. Many apps do one thing really well, but aren’t great at everything. Still others are bought, redesigned or just disappear — so it’s always good to know about an array of tools to suit the need at hand.

12 Books About Learning Every Teacher Should Read - TeachThought

12 Books About Learning Every Teacher Should Read - TeachThought | English with tech | Scoop.it
"In the age of blogging and social media, is there still room for books? Hopefully. While digital content is handy and accessible, many of the issues we face as educators are deeper than any single post–or series of posts–can adequately address. While RSS skimming and short eBooks are beginning to find favor with busy teachers–and for good reason–pairing that kind of persistent content with longer-duration reads is never a bad idea. Where will you find the time? That’s another post. Or book."

15 creative & respectful ways to quiet a class - The Cornerstone

15 creative & respectful ways to quiet a class - The Cornerstone | English with tech | Scoop.it
"Have you fallen into the trap of saying “No talking!” or “I need quiet!” all day long? It’s exhausting to keep repeating your requests for silence, and after the hundredth time, kids just tune you out, anyway. There have been some great discussions about how to get students to quiet down on my Facebook page as well as in the Facebook group Encouraging Teachers, and I want to share what’s worked for those teachers as well as what I’ve tried in my own classroom. Contributors’ names are written in parentheses where applicable."

Sunday Night Teacher: 5 Videos To Motivate Students - TeachThought

Sunday Night Teacher: 5 Videos To Motivate Students - TeachThought | English with tech | Scoop.it
"This week’s edition of Sunday Night Teacher focuses on motivation–specifically motivating students by helping them see the big picture. These videos are all charged with hyperbole, rhetoric, and emotion. While the tones, themes, sounds, and visuals make powerful cases for motivation, what you’re motivating them for and towards is on you. Yes, ideally motivation comes from curiosity and self-awareness, not rah-rah speeches you show them from YouTube–so let’s use both. Prime your inquiry-based learning unit with a video, offer then a basic model, then unleash them and watch them fly."
