Is the American Dream Dead?

Is the American Dream Dead? | English class blog | Scoop.it

The American Dream to many people is different. In the begining of the United States it was owning land, having freedom, and ultimately having money and the means of supporting yourself and family. Now i think the American Dream has vanished from the old days but there is a new one. My dream is to have a family, a house to support my family, and enough money to live on, not to much or to little. The old American dream like they talk about in this article i believe is truly dead. But the American Dream to Americans and to Foreign immigrants is completely different. They think just living and having the opportunity is the best dream ever. I think us as American citizens take it for granted. People and different countries have it a million times worse then we do and work so many times harder then us and we still think we don't have enough or enough money. So my dream is actually achievable and I don't want anymore then what I need. Greed is alive.

The Roaring Twenties - Musée McCord Museum

I couldn't imagine living in this "Jazz age". This game we played in class gave me a good idea about the style, actions, and events of the people that lived in this time period. Thier parties consit of jazz dancing and just having a good time, but today its all about drinking and drugs. Maybe this wasn't such a bad time. The men and women always dressed classy and the women were always all done up with lip stick and nail polish at all times. Now its still kind of like that but not as strict. This also pertains to the book we are reading, The Great Gatsby. Gatsby always intertaines people but never parties with his guests just gives his house so other people can have a good time. It's strange to our time we live in but was completely normal to these people. I think it would be pretty cool to go back and just live it for one day.

Against Banning Books | Teen Opinion Essay | Teen Ink

Against Banning Books | Teen Opinion Essay | Teen Ink | English class blog | Scoop.it

Books are banned all around the United States everyday. Mostly for no specific reason. Even the most American made stories are banned all the time. Teachers base books of study for the year because they have specific history of quotes in them that will help the kids understand what they are studying. The biggest problem is parents thinking that thier children aren't old enough for the material, if the teacher thought that to they wouldn't assign the book. In this article it describes even the best books in American history banned because of sexual and violent content. In the end all its there for is to imprint the scene in your mind and make it more dramitic. I promise that the kid won't remember it forever parents, so stop stressing over the little things. Also remember, never judge a book by it's cover!
