Oprah Winfrey Gives $40 Million to Charity

Oprah Winfrey Gives $40 Million to Charity | English Blog | Scoop.it

Oh Oprah. She's doing big and courageous things for people just out of the goodness of her heart. This news article from People Magazine was published on December 10, 2010. Although it is not that recent, it means a lot to others and relates to a main character in the book "The Great Gatsby." This Character that it relates to is James Gatz, or as we know him more well as Gatsby. Gatsby is a rich man that lives in West Egg. Most people categorize rich people into the snobby, stuck up, and rude class, but these two wonderful people do not fit into this category. As it say's in this article, Oprah gave away $40 million, and every cent of it was going toward some type of charity. In other words, she was providing for the people. Gatsby showed that he doesn't fit into that "snobby" category because he provided for the people too. Gatsby threw parties on the regular for the people in West Egg but more than he invited usually showed up. He just wanted everyone to get along and have a good time. Oprah has her shows that she airs, and the special thing about her shows is that everyone in the audience that day receives some type of award, if we shall say. Sometimes it might be a goodie bag, and other times it might be a car! Gatsby is a honest and noble man who has a very kind heart just like Oprah. All he is trying to do is fit in and have Daisy love him as she did before. Both of these two amazing people are the definition of a good person. If you want to learn how to do things the correct way, then I suggest you take some notes. Giving away really is the best way to help people out and most people don't realize how much trouble some people really are in. If you're a big believer in Karma, then it would behoove you to start chipping in! It will also make you feel a lot better about yourself!

"Billionaire" song for Gatsby

Clean version! Enjoy.... The song choice that I picked for a character in the book of The Great Gatsby is "Billionaire" by Travie McCoy and Bruno Mars. I chose this song for Gatsby because it relates to him completely. The song is called "Billionaire" and that is spot on what Gatsby is. Well, we are not sure exactly how much money Gatsby has but he lives in a mansion and throws parties on the regular. In the song, Travie talks about how he would throw parties all of the time and that is exactly what Gatsby does. Also, Travie talks about how he would let people use his things all of the time and he would provide for people. Sound familiar? Yeah, that is exactly what Gatsby does. He lets people drive his car, use his pool, and come in his house! He is a generous man with a colossal heart, just like Bruno Mars and Travie McCoy. I also feel that this song relates to Gatsby, or should I say James Gatz, because of the tone of the song. The song is a mellow but happy tone and relates to Gatsby incredibly well. Gatsby is a mellow man who is always happy. Well, usually happy. I'm sure he isn't very happy when he finds out that Daisy, his early life lover, finds another man while he is off at war. This songis very enjoyable and has a catchy tune that is easy to get stuck in your head, kind of like Gatsby. Gatsby is a character where no matter who you are; you will fall in love with him. He does everything right and you can't get mad at him. He is a hard worker that shows mad respect towards others. I don't think there could be another song that fits as perfectly well as "Billionaire."

Song Title that represents a character

The song that I chose is "Dirty Little Secret" by the All American Rejects. I chose this song to represent the character Nick. This song would be sang to Nick by one of the people that confided in him. The song starts with the lines "let me know that I've done wrong, when I've known this all along". This could mean that somebody is going to Nick to ask for advice because they know Nick is not a judgemental person and can be trusted to give good, honest advice. The song continues to give lines like "I'll keep you my dirty little secret, Don't tell anyone or you'll be just another regret". Which continues to show how important the trust that people put into Nick when they go to him to ask for advice or to tell him the things that they have done wrong. Nick Caraway represents the ultimate friend. He is very trustworthy and you would be able to tell this guy anything that is on your mind without the worry that he is going to judge you. It is clearly represented through this song.

I think that this song is perfect for Nick. When I heard that you chose this song I wasn't totally convinced that it would be a good choice, but after listening to it and reading what you had to say, it is perfect. Nick would be the perfect friend to have because he is loyal, trustworthy and is very nice. The only thing is I don't think he is, is honest. I don't think he is honest because he knows that Tom and Myrtle are having an affair with eachother but he isn't honest with Wilson and Daisy. Also he knows that Daisy and Gatsby had a thing with each other and Tom didn't know about it. Even if he never asks anything, it is a form of lying and that would not be honest. Although Nick isn't honest, he is very loyal to his friends and that is why he fits perfectly with this song. Loyalty is a big factor in friendship. If I knew that my friend wasn't loyal, I would stop being his friend. Simple as that. If you can't show respect towards me, then I wont show respect towards you, and I think Nick does an outstanding job of giving his respect to his friends. Anyways, great song choice Riley! Two thumbs up!
