Your Best Impression, is your First Impression.

Your Best Impression, is your First Impression. | ENG4C Work Portfolio-Kaitlyn | Scoop.it

The way people first perceive you can either make or break
you, well with jobs interviews at least! Your first impression to your
interviewer will change how he/she thinks of you during the entire interview
process.

First off, it’s how you greet the interviewer. Always make
eye contact. It shows you’re confident. Also that handshake. Make it firm, not
flimsy. Your hand shake shows that you’re confident too. And hold your head up
high with a big smile on your face. Don’t come in looking scared, or uneasy.
Remember, confidence is key!

What you wear also determines how the interviewer thinks of
you. Do NOT come in wearing jeans and a nice shirt. Always dress one step above
what everyone else wears. You want to look professional. It shows you know what you’re doing and

besides, we judge people based on looks before we know them. Once they have
that first impression of you in their mind, it is very unlikely that it will
change.

Nursing is a career meant for those who do not like being stuck in one field of work. No matter where you are in nursing, you can always take a few courses that allow you from going to the ER, then work in cardiology. This is called bridging.

Nursing is a job that is emotionally challenging, but is for someone is who passionate. It is a 24hr job, so one works any day of the week and on holidays. However, you do get bonuses, and lots of overtime pay. The schooling however, is one of the hardest in university or college, and out of a class of 38, 5 dropped out. 13 people failed RPN last year at Conestoga College in Kitchener. The salaries of nursing can be anywhere between $18-$42/hr. depending on what level of education you have completed.

The demand for male nurses is in very high demand. Male nurses tend to be more caring, and passionate for their job. Since nursing is typically a female dominated occupation, less males goes into this type of field but males are some of the best type of nurses. Even though the education is stressful, once you get into this type of field, you will never regret it. This job is very good paying job, but the reward after you save some ones life, is even greater!

From the Farm, to your Grocery Store

From the Farm, to your Grocery Store | ENG4C Work Portfolio-Kaitlyn | Scoop.it

Most of us have never thought about how our food gets to the grocery stores. The process that it takes to get our chicken from the farm to the grocery store takes thousands of people. This is the supply chain!

Every company in North America uses the supply chain in some form or another. There are not many people going into the supply chain field, and with the baby boomers retiring soon, the demand for supply chain workers is huge! 80,000 positions need to be filled in the next 10 years because of all the workers that are leaving this field.

The salary ranges from $40,000 a year, to $60,000. Last year at Conestoga College, each graduate in the supply chain program, had 2 job offers each because of the need for workers and not enough workers going into this field. Some of the careers in the supply chain are planning, procuring, distribution, IT specialist, purchaser, and process engineers, just to name a few! This job has little to no homework. Once you’re done work for the day, you’re done! There is no need to bring any work home with you. If you want a career that will always be in demand, this job is for you!

So you want to be a Cop?!

So you want to be a Cop?! | ENG4C Work Portfolio-Kaitlyn | Scoop.it

Many of us know that the process of being a police officer is very long and challenging. In this article, the application process will be summarized step by step to help you know what you are getting into. First off, the application is $300. That is just to apply to be a police officer. You then have to go through an intellect test, which requires you to answer 90 questions in 90 minutes (1 minute per question). Next there is the fitness test. Many people think the fitness test is the most challenging but in reality, you just need to make it to 6.5 on the beep test. You will also need a hearing and vision test to make it to the next step.

In the next application process, you will need to do a spelling test which requires you to spell 40 random words out of 556. You will need a 75% in 30 minutes to move on to the next step which requires 6 interviews with the chief of police and the deputy chief. You will also need a psychological assessment from a psychiatrist. During that assessment, you will answer 5 questions in 3 hours. Basically, these questions is so the psychiatrist can find out about any life experience that you have that might make either a good police officer, or maybe not cut out to be one. Next you will answer 700 basic questions (ex “Do you like your mother?”) to assess your mental state and the issues you personally have. You will then have to go to another interview by the psychiatrist so they can expand more on the questions that you answered. Once you go through that, and of course reference checks, congratulations, you are hired! But wait, you have to go to 13 weeks of training at that Ontario Police College (which is paid!).
