o five to seven pages of body text (1,500 to 2,000 words) o a references page

 Formatted your paper according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

Your Final Research Paper will be assessed on the following components:

Writing the Final Research Paper 
The Final Research Paper   Must have a body length of five to seven double-spaced pages formatted according to APA style as 
outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.   Must include a separate title page with the following: o Title of paper

Your draft must be 750 to 2,000 words in length, excluding the title and references pages. Remember to proofread your work for errors in grammar, mechanics, style, and formatting. The purpose of the Final Research Paper Draft is to ensure you are making satisfactory progress on your Final Research Paper while providing you with an opportunity to receive direction and feedback from your instructor. Using Microsoft Excel. Plagiarism, whether intentional or unintentional, is a big problem for universities. Not only is it an issue of unfair use of copyrighted material, it speaks to an ethical issue of cheating. (Please refer to the Microsoft Excel tutorials in the appendices of the Constellation text.)

Consider the following statistics. According to the plagiarism.org (2013), a survey conducted by Donald McCabe between 2002 and 2005 that included 63,700 US undergraduates and 9,250 graduate students revealed the following data:

36% of undergraduate and 24% of graduate students admit to “paraphrasing/copying few sentences from Internet source without footnoting it.”38% of undergraduate and 25% of graduate students admit to “paraphrasing/copying few sentences from written source without footnoting it.”14% of undergraduate students and 7% of graduate students admit to “fabricating/falsifying a bibliography.”7% of undergraduate and 4% of graduate students self-report copying materials “almost word for word from a written source without citation.”7% of undergraduate and 3% of graduate students self-report “turning in work done by another.”3% of undergraduate and 2% of graduate students report “obtaining paper from term paper mill.”

In Excel, create a worksheet that addresses the following:

In cell A1, enter the following title for this worksheet: Student Plagiarism Statistics.In cell A3, enter the following: Form of Plagiarism.In cell B3, enter the following: Undergraduate.In cell C3, enter the following: Graduate.In cell D4, enter the total number of undergraduate students that participated in the study 63,700.In cell E4, enter the total number of graduate students that participated n the study 9,250. 
 Beginning in cell A5, enter each of the six categories of plagiarism identified by this report, one in each row. (These categories are found under the “Academic Integrity in College and Graduate School” section showing the results of the survey done by Donald McCabe.)Beginning in cell B5, calculate the number of students that admitted to each offense. To do this, you will need to calculate the number of students based on the percentage provided.For example, if there were 63,700 undergraduate students that participated in the survey and 36% admitted to paraphrasing/copying a few sentences from an Internet source, then that would mean that 22,932 students admitted to the offense (63,700 * .36). Complete these calculations for all six categories. Be sure to enter formulas and use proper cell referencing, e.g. = D4*.36Calculate the same data for graduate students beginning in cell C5.Format all cells with the appropriate data types. Set numeric fields with no decimals.Once you have completed the calculations, select the data cells in the table to create your chart.

Create a chart that will visually depict the data, in a way that makes it easy to see the largest areas of

plagiarism problems. A good example might be a column chart that shows undergraduate and graduate

data side by side. The choice of chart is your own.

Finalize your worksheet by making sure all columns are formatted to accommodate the size of the data.

Format your chart as needed to assure that the chart looks clean and neat. Be sure that your worksheet

looks professional and polished.

 Read the AWC’s Guidelines for Paraphrasing Sources and Integrating Quotes Into Your Essay.  Review the AWC’s Recognizing Plagiarism and Avoiding Plagiarism.
 Review the Turnitin Student FAQ, available in class under “Learning Resources” 
Reflect   Before drafting your initial post, take time to reflect on everything you’ve learned about argument, logic, and fallacy over the last month. Reread your draft with an eye on logic and make note of any fallacies you catch or claims that lack support.   Take another look at your draft with an eye on your use of outside sources. Keep an eye out for missing quotation marks, poorly paraphrased information, and in-text citations. Make note of any errors or concerns you discover. Utilize the Turnitin tool to help you review your work. 
Write (due Thursday, Day 3)
 In 200 to 300 words, share your plagiarism and logic self-check experience. Describe your process and 
the items you uncovered during your review. In a few sentences, explain how you will correct the issues and ask questions if you need help or advice. You may also share some of your best quotes, paraphrases, and logical passages with the class. Be sure to explain why your chosen sections are “the best,” and how this process will influence your work in the future.

 In 125 to 200 words each, respond to at least two classmates. In each response, provide answers and

 In 200 to 300 words, share one of your body paragraphs. Your paragraph must include a topic sentence,

one direct quote, and one paraphrased passage. Integrate both of these elements into your paragraph using 

proper APA in-text citations. In a final paragraph, provide the original text that you are paraphrasing.

Include an APA-formatted reference list for the sources noted in the body of your paragraph.  In a separate paragraph,

o Explain how your topic sentence supports your thesis statement.
o Explain how the quoted and paraphrased material supports your claims and/or adds credibility to

your writing.

Final Research Paper Outline. Due by Day 7. Your assignment will begin with an APA-style title page followed by a formal outline that presents your thesis statement, topic sentences, and supporting information for each topic. You will need to refer to your annotated bibliography to locate appropriate sources for the claims you intend to present and cite these sources the body of your outline and on your reference page. Please check the “Research Paper Guidelines,” available in your online course, if you have any questions about the assignment topics. Also, be sure to review the Model Outline before you begin constructing your own outline.

You are required to format your assignment as a full-sentence outline in APA style (see the Outline Form in the Ashford Writing Center) that includes source material from at least two scholarly sources from last week’s research along with additional research, if necessary. Be sure to incorporate any useful feedback you have received from your instructor and classmates.

The outline must be 400 to 500 words in length and formatted according to APA style. For information regarding APA, including samples and tutorials, visit the Ashford Writing Center, located within the Learning Resources tab on the left navigation toolbar, in your online course.

What Is an Argument? 1st Post Due by Day 3. Prepare

  As you prepare to write your first discussion this week, take a few moments to do the following:   Read “An Introduction to Argument.”   Read the sample essay, “Flag Burning.”   Review the grading rubric for this discussion. 
Reflect   Before drafting your initial post, take time to reflect on the idea of argument in an academic setting. Think about your own natural communication style and your typical behavior in an argument. Are you typically calm and logical when making an argument? Do you tend to appeal to emotion? Do you often get frustrated when trying to prove your point? Think critically about your personal communication style and its effectiveness in an academic setting. Write (due Thursday, Day 3)
In 200 to 300 words, describe argument in your own words. Include the roles of the four basic elements of an argument in your description. Give an example of an argument you have experienced and identify the claims, evidence, counterargument, and rebuttal used.

If you cannot think of an example from your own life, you may analyze the persuasive student paper, Flag Burning, from the Ashford Writing Center instead. You must identify claims, evidence, counterarguments, and rebuttals present in the student paper. 
Be sure to include any questions or confusion you have regarding rhetoric, argument, and the Classic/Rogerian styles.
