There is a negative perception of young student affairs professionals. Professional impressions and identity is key for the young professional and needs to be managed appropriately.

One of the most difficult things that I have been trying to overcome as a professional in higher education and leadership consulting is my age. Recent graduates who pursue a career immediately in higher education are sometimes diminished as a result of preconceived notions on experience, or lack thereof. I think the author nailed it on the head and addressed the serious need for young professionals to manage the perceptions others have regularly.
