Spanish is third most used Internet language | World Internet Statistics

It probably won't surprise you that English is the top Internet language. Nor would you be baffled to learn that Chinese is second. So what's the third? No, it's not French. It's Spanish (followed by Japanese, with French in the eighth slot), according to 2010 statistics.

The University of Iowa has started offering an MFA in Creative Writing in Spanish, the equivalent of an MBA in Business. Why? "Esto es un reconocimiento a otra realidad lingüística y a la necesidad de potenciar la creación en español [This is a recognition of another linguistic reality and the necessity to empower creation in Spanish]," according to poet Ana Merino, director of the new course. From this midwestern university came the likes of John Irving, John Cheever, Kurt Vonnegut, Jane Smiley, and Philip Roth - either as students or professors.
