Reasons why Enterprise choose Mithi's SkyConnect over an ISP mail solution - Mithi Blog

Reasons why Enterprise choose Mithi's SkyConnect over an ISP mail solution - Mithi Blog | Email Collaboration | Scoop.it
SaaS or PaaS ? Abstract Business should consider carefully whether they want to be delivered  a true SaaS solution (Software as a Service) or an infrastructure-focused PaaS solution (Product as a Service). While the former is about providing Managed Services, the later is about providing Infrastructure and Product. The difference could be big. Software as …
Sumit's insight:

Why SaaS could be a better option in comparison to PaaS? - Unlike as we see in case of PaaS which are usually provided by third party vendors, in case of SaaS (Software as a Service), product is run by software makers themselves and this gives extra weightage to such function. It is up to Business and companies to carefully consider their options – whether they want to be delivered a true SaaS solution or something like an infrastructure focused PaaS solution which is provided by third party.

Leveraging existing Product and learning: Mithi delivers much higher level of service and support to its customers by having the exact same product and service infrastructure that delivers the Connect Xf enterprise software for its SaaS solution SkyConnect than most PaaS providers. Best part about SaaS is the high quality end user experience business gets out of it as there are no instances of buck passing between platform provider and software vendor.

Devise new features by leveraging cloud capabilities:Sky Connect was designed with the following capabilities – instant on, backup/restore, remote access (admin), production & staging, automatic updates and 24*7 supports SLA and the main feature is cloud based service is leveraging capabilities for flexibility, performance and reliability.

Confused about what is Cloud computing? - Mithi Blog

Confused about what is Cloud computing? - Mithi Blog | Email Collaboration | Scoop.it
Learning from running our SaaS online collaboration service, Mithi SkyConnect, from a single server to a multi-server, multi-location set-up, we’ve come long way in handling high volume email services, but the increasing sophistication of the service, rapid growth in traffic and speed at which we need to provision for new users has made it necessary to …
Sumit's insight:

Confused About What Is Cloud Computing

A good cloud platform is software, which sits over the bare metal objects like Servers, Networks, Disks, etc to provide “out-of-the box” services, and “reliable and elastic” objects, which can be used to host the application. Typically a cloud platform will provide with a single interface to manage the server and setup instances, storage elements, services, across multiple sites and will automatically handle the scaling and availability requirements of the application, without needing human intervention in most cases.

Consider the following basic requirements for any Application hosting environment:

Provisioning Server/Compute instances as requiredProvisioning Storage and Backup objects as requiredNetworking the objects together for inter-connectednessProvisioning for Bandwidth as requiredDeploying the application on the platformPlanning for High availability on site and off sitePlanning for temporary bursts/spurts in usagePlanning for scale up or scale out as requiredSetting up maintenance and monitoring procedures and automation.

So another way to look at it is:

User <–> Uses Applications <–> Running off a Software Platform <–> Hosted on a cloud platform <–> Running on a bare metal infrastructure.

So NOW we don’t have to worry about:

Adding more servers as load grows…its automatic scale out and scale inAdding more storage as we need more (on demand)…it’s automatic.Having a cap on our bandwidth…it bursts on demandReliability of the machines and storage…there is built in redundancyPaying for capacity we don’t use…pay per usePlanning for capacity in future…its elastic.

One key word in any cloud platform is “elastic”. Scale up or down, manually or automatically, vertically or horizontally.

From BYOD to CYOD: Almost impossible to ignore mobile devices in the workplace - Mithi Blog

From BYOD to CYOD: Almost impossible to ignore mobile devices in the workplace - Mithi Blog | Email Collaboration | Scoop.it
Sumit's insight:

Today every smart device like Smartphones, Tablets, Notebooks are assured of having business applications like address book, calendar, appointment scheduler, calculator, world time clock and notepad, along with email clients. The concept of ‘Bring Your Own Device’ (BYOD) to workplace is in demand for more than a decade ago. Executives had now reached the zenith of connectivity by accessing their corporate emails via their smart phones (android phones, blackberry, iPhones) - a revolution in its own. To BYOD or not to BYOD is not the question anymore. In fact, it has now been replaced by CYOD ‘Choose Your Own Device’.

Enterprises have realized that they cannot avoid corporate data from getting into personal devices so, it is more important to encourage it at an official level. CYOD provides a balance wherein it lets the employee choose a particular device from a range of IT-approved devices which helps the organization to enforce at least a particular IT-approved level of security.

The advantages of allowing personal devices can be:

Personal Productivity and Accessibility: Employees having 24×7 access to email and other Office business applications can help increase an organization’s global reach that speeds up business services like HR self-help or approvals.Business Content and Collaboration: Employees can drive a higher sale by using their devices to engage prospects and customers that enhance the level of customer engagement.

Using a hosted email and business applications over personal devices, the primary concern includes:

Security: The main concern is to safeguarding the corporate data that is stored on employee’s personal devices by enabling a basic password or a PIN on their devices.Personal Use: Organizations worry that allowing personal devices at the workplace could result in employees wasting precious work time to indulge in personal activities like chatting, using social media or exploring other forms of tech entertainment.Working with Organization’s Technology: Some personal devices may not meet the requirements for being fully compatible with the organization’s policies.

Are you using Mail Policies effectively to secure your mail setup? - Mithi Blog

Are you using Mail Policies effectively to secure your mail setup? - Mithi Blog | Email Collaboration | Scoop.it
A while ago, we got a call from one of our customers asking us to help them trace the source of an email, which was sent to all the top management people. This turned out to be a malicious email sent by a disgruntled ex-employee, just before he left the organization. While we did manage …
Sumit's insight:

The effective use of mail security policies can actually help to:

Secure the flow of information to/from the organization and to/from groups of people.Optimization of Mail traffic which help in reducing the resource consumption.Helps to control the usage of email for functional groups or departments in the organization.Improve efficiency since it allows automate corporate mail usage policies.

Access Control: It is possible to selectively block or restrict the POP / HTTP access to mail boxes by users IPs. It is effective in controlling the email access.

Secure Access: It enables and enforces secure channels between the client and server for accessing the mail box via POPS/ HTTPS which effectively helps in securing mail transport between clients and server which leaves no chance of wiretapping.

Policies: It is also possible to allow or disallow mail to be sent or received from users or groups based on rules composed with mail fields.

It is easy to put all these to use by deciding on a mail usage policy based on the above framework. For this, it is essential to divide the users into functional groups and decide whether the group of users should allow or disallow. Then review the policy document against security policies. Finally configure the mail system to deliver on these requirements.

5 Unavoidable Reasons to Adopt Collaboration Services on the Cloud | Mithi Blog

Sumit's insight:

Businesses are keen to collaborate with stakeholders in real time, regardless of their location. To facilitate the seamless flow of information between stakeholders, businesses use a suite of services called collaboration services. These services essentially include tools such as email, web and voice chat, video conferencing, shared contacts, calendar, document management, archival, etc.

These five additional compelling reasons make you change your mind about moving your collaboration workload to a cloud platform:

Flexibility, reliability and multi-location accessibility Collaboration happens across geographical boundaries and time zones. Cloud-based collaboration solutions, since they are central to all locations, are not restricted to a specific geography, and can reach the employees of an organization dispersed across regions (even countries).

Grow and shrink your operations freely and instantly By adopting cloud-based collaboration services, organizations get access to elevated elasticity in resource allocation, which allows them to grow and shrink their operations freely and instantly, without having to carry the burden of provisioning or de-provisioning expensive resources.

Leverage the latest functionality of the continually upgraded versions of the apps The entire upgrade/migration and configuration is performed by the backend teams, relieving you of the effort to manage downtime, and performing the upgrade.

Zero Capex and reduced operational costs With no upfront capital outlay required, cloud-based collaboration services allow organizations to start deployment. Cloud-based services run on a ‘Pay-per-use’ subscription model allowing companies to budget for them easily and more accurately.

Reduced risks – Not happy with your vendor? Another one is just a click away! Shifting from one vendor to another is an easy task (as long as you have stuck to an open platform and used open clients for application access). If you plan your deployment well, you may be able to shift with minimal or no change at the end point. It’s only a matter of deciding. There is no play of complex infrastructure overhaul, upgrade, reconfiguration, etc.

Greetings !!! Recently Mithi launched a new capability in Connect Xf (3.16), called the Secure Attachment Vault, which allows you to capture all inbound and outbound attachments into a central secure reliable storage as an Asset repository. This frees up the user to freely create and exchange the documents, without worrying about securing them someplace. …
Sumit's insight:

Mithi Connect Xf 3.16 gives an exciting new feature which allows you to keep a copy of all the attachments sent and received by all or selected users on a central FTP server. There are many methods through which the documents and email attachments can be saved and secured. The release of updated version of Connect Xf 3.16 by Mithi, called the Secure Attachment Vault, allows capturing all inbound and outbound attachments into a central secure & reliable storage as an asset respiratory. This helps users to freely create and exchange the documents and mails without securing and storing those docs to some safe place.

Connect Xf Release 3.16: The control is transparent to the end users. The mail flow to and from end users is not affected. The attachments extracted can be regular attachments or can be in the form of links within the mail. The attachments of users can be uploaded to a single FTP account under different folders or to each user can be configured to upload to a separate FTP account.

Secure Attachment Vault: Using this capability, administrators can ensure that every single attachment sent and received by selected or all users of the system can be automatically uploaded to a central point. The system has the flexibility to even group the storage of assets across a group of users.End Point Backups: All the documents can be secured that have been transported over mails as well as that are stored on the user’s machine even if they were never sent via emails. The endpoint backup tool allows retrieving some or all portion of the user’s data, depending upon its capability.Email Archival: This method can be used by setting the personal archival system in Connect Xf to capture a copy of every mail sent and received by the user in a central mail archival storage. This system maintains the data in the archival and allows the user to search for specific mail in case of a disaster on the server or at the end point.SISA: ‘Single Instance Storage for Attachments’ helped companies save on the precious resources of storage and bandwidth and also secured the attachments. To save on bandwidth & server space and to increase the efficiency of mail servers, administrators may configure the SISA feature on Connect Xf server.

How is email phising and spoofing hurting your business - Mithi Blog

How is email phising and spoofing hurting your business - Mithi Blog | Email Collaboration | Scoop.it
Email spoofing is email fraud and deception. Spoofing is the most common from of the modern con game called ‘phising’. The email spoofer is trying to “phish” your passwords and login names by attempting to lure you to reveal your account and password details. Essentially, the email spoofer is a spammer trying to hide his …
Sumit's insight:

Rise and Rise of Emails: More than half of branded emails opened via mobile devices. According to a survey, the number of worldwide email accounts is expected to increase from 3.1 billion in 2011 to 3.6 billion in 2013. The different paths on which email traffic i.e. send & receive of mails per day is generating are business emails, consumer emails and worldwide emails.

Email Spoofing/Phishing: Email spoofing is email fraud and deception. Spoofing is the most common form of modern con game called ‘phishing’. The email spoofer is a spammer who tries to hide his true identity, while still filling your mailbox with advertisements. Spoofers also try to ‘phish’ or steal your confidential info like password and login details.

Why Does Email Spoofing Happen: Email envelope addresses are very easy to fake that the user can’t know who is sending the mails. The basic SMTP protocol does not provide a mechanism to authenticate users. It’s difficult for the user to track the record of sender who is sending mails to their server until and unless he/she is having reliable authentication of the clients. Users cannot rely on the sender's email address as identification.

Risks for Business: Email spoofing can risks businesses by fake emails, text messages and websites created to look like they're from authentic companies. Business can be affected in many ways like financial loss, public image/trust, privacy, litigation, intellectual capital, etc.

Email Spoofer’s Tactics:

Trick you into giving them information by asking you to update, validate or confirm your account. It is often presented in a manner than seems official and intimidating, to encourage you to take action.Provides cyber criminals with your username and passwords so that they can access your accounts and steal your confidential data or information.

Prevent Email Spoofing with Mithi SykConnect: Mithi Connect XF gives the solution by prevention of spoofing by users on the same domain by default configuration to accept only authenticated SMTP. SMTP authentication has the capability of rejecting SMTP connections with sender whose login is mismatched within a domain, which helps users to deny access if the sender is sending mails without explicit permission.

For SMEs Cloud Based Services is the default way forward - Mithi Blog

For SMEs Cloud Based Services is the default way forward - Mithi Blog | Email Collaboration | Scoop.it
Whats the future of Collaboration? What are the top game changing trends in Collaboration Infrastructure and Applications?
Sumit's insight:

Cloud Based Service allows business functions to be performed, by accessing data, software or infrastructure over a ‘cloud’ (or the Internet) instead of an in-premise based infrastructure..

You don’t want to be left out! For an organization that needs information to be available 24×7, a CBS would be the ideal platform.  As per the latest reports of Global Markets, the market for Cloud services is expected to grow to $125 billion by 2016, with 67% comprising of business applications and Infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS).

Adopting CBS seems to be the default way forward: Large and small business derives lot of cost and efficiency benefits from cloud based services. The critical areas covering any CBS include the end users, infrastructure providers & service providers.

80% of nation’s economic activities are managed by SMEs. Cloud based services help them to great extent by allowing them to focus  more on their core functions like accounting, office productivity tools, collaboration amongst the team, HRMS, Payroll, etc.

Overcome traditional hurdles to deploy services and reach markets: SMEs can devote more manpower, time and money to run competitively against large enterprises with the help of CBS, by diverting capital IT spending towards areas like marketing and innovation. SMEs can achieve their goals on a much larger scale and at a much lower cost by increasing brand awareness and market visibility. CBS has a huge role to play in ensuring so.

Take your Pick of Vendors; they are just a click away! As per the requirements and budgets SMEs have this option of picking and choosing their provider. Small/medium businesses can gain competitive advantage or even narrow the gap with large enterprises on key areas like Business Applications, Collaboration, Communications, Cloud Data Analytics, and Social Media etc.
