The Girl & the Tiger - Lesson Plan

The Girl & the Tiger - Lesson Plan | eflclassroom | Scoop.it

This lesson is based on a single image of a girl sitting in the forest with a tiger. The lesson includes a variety of discussion and conversation tasks that you can use to get students thinking and talking about the image.

These are followed by language focus tasks and some more creative tasks.

As well as vocabulary, the plan can be used to practice 'present continuous', 'present perfect continuous' or 'second conditional'.

Finally, there are some suggestions for digital research and creation follow-up tasks.

Vance Stevens's curator insight, April 20, 8:12 PM
This post reflects on a critical difference between two recent major international conferences, IATEFL in Brighton and TESOL in Chicago. I attended both, the one in Chicago, physically in the windy city, and the one in Brighton, virtually. I spent thousands of dollars from my teacher's salary to attend the former, and nothing to attend the latter. However, the profit may accrue to IATEFL, the one I might be more likely to support on a sustained basis, considering that it's more in line with a teacher's desire to share good work without charging those who can ill afford it for every aspect of it (analogous to the mindset driving medical care in America vs that in UK).

Edcamps: The ‘Unconferences,’ Where Teachers Teach Themselves - The New York Times

Edcamps: The ‘Unconferences,’ Where Teachers Teach Themselves - The New York Times | eflclassroom | Scoop.it
Perhaps the best known of many so-called unconference models, Edcamps arose out of the idea that teachers, just like their students, need “voice and choice” to help them learn. Anyone who shows up to these free events can suggest or lead a session, and participants are invited to “vote with their feet” about which to attend.

Or, as Kisha Slaughter put it in Newark that morning: “Edcamps are more of a conversation than a presentation.”

Ana Maria Montañez's curator insight, April 24, 7:42 PM
I found this article really interesting and meaningful to my professional development in view of the fact that grammar is one of the most difficult language features that students have to deal with. Grammar checkers provide student with a good opportunity to realize their grammatical mistakes during the writing process while at the same time they enhance self-monitoring skills and language proficiency. Three grammar checkers are presented throughout this article: Grammarly, Grammar and Spelling Checker and Language Tool. Among the advantages of these online platforms have we can say that they help, both, students and teachers to check grammar and spelling in different social networks and platforms, they provide suggestions to improve students’ own writing style, and finally they find many errors that a simple spell checker cannot detect. From my personal point of view, these online tools that enhance the quality of grammar should not be overused neither by teachers nor by students since this practice can diminish the ability to be self-aware of grammatical structures, syntax and patterns of the target language.
