"Is the vertical pronoun really such a capital idea? [...] Modern e-mail culture has shown that many English speakers feel perfectly comfortable dismissing all uses of capitalization — and even correct spelling, for that matter. But take this a step further: i suggest that You try, as an experiment, to capitalize those whom You address while leaving yourselves in the lowercase [...]"

The Truth About Bullying | INFOGRAPHIC - ESL | EFL-ESL, ELT, Education | Language - Learning - Teaching - Educating | Scoop.it
Bullying is a subject that never seems to go away and one that really sticks in my craw so to speak.
Monica Mirza's insight:

Bullying in real life schools as well as cyberbullying have become both a concern and a burning issue to French English teachers. As bullying and harassment have been dealt with in the US educational system, there are many resources on this topic  -like this relevant infographic...

As a poster, it is likely to attract the pupils' eyes in the classroom, and it might also provide data to build language activities as part of a lesson plan on th subject.

"Welcome to snopes.com, the definitive Internet reference source for urban legends, folklore, myths, rumors, and misinformation.  -  The definitive Internet reference source for urban legends, folklore, myths, rumors, and misinformation"

Monica Mirza's insight:

Learning a foreign language nowadays means also searching the Internet for information and facts. As a result of using the ICT, pupils or students are now able to pick these up rather fast... sometimes too fast !

Media literacy is part of a teacher's daily task, no matter how reduced this part might be compared with TEFL itself. As a surfer ought to check a piece of information accuracy before he forwards the email including it... a learner ought to check some  pieces of information accuracy when gathering them online for his own work. As well as www.hoaxbuster.com www.snopes.com is an interesting tool for both of them :o)

Agreement on how American schoolchildren should read and write is much easier to arrive at than agreement on what they should read and write.
Monica Mirza's insight:

"[...] Put another way, emotion is the English teacher’s entry point for literary exploration and for the development of the high-level skills outlined in the Common Core State Standards, which have been adopted in 45 states. How the English language is, like, changing

How the English language is, like, changing | EFL-ESL, ELT, Education | Language - Learning - Teaching - Educating | Scoop.it

"British children say 'like' five times more than their grandparents according to a 20-year language study, while 'love' is all around us.[...] The word ‘love’ is used more than six times as often as ‘hate’, while ‘save’ is used with ‘money’ twice as often as the word ‘spend’."

Monica Mirza's insight:

Not to be outdone, as for "like", French youths also use it much more often than the older English speaking Froggies used to ;o)

I had never really pondered the matter, but to me such a  'likemania' might have been determined by an increasing listening to American English sounds on air, more than to British English ones  -mind you, nothing scientifically grounded here, only a mere personal feeling...

Not to mention the (unconscious ? but likely !) influence of FBook's successful takeover bid on the word.
