Empathy In Creativity and Design Thinking

Empathy In Creativity and Design Thinking | EDUnew | Scoop.it

RSA Animate recently released a video called 'The Power of Outrospection'. The video intrigued me and this post has helped me pull together some of my thoughts about the links between empathy and creativity.
The post explores empathy in a variety of fields, including design, human services, and the creative fields, and the video is also embedded in the post. Take the opportunity to read the post, watch the video, and ponder how empathy allows us to be creative as we look for new solutions for whatever issues we face.

The Real Neuroscience of Creativity

The Real Neuroscience of Creativity | EDUnew | Scoop.it

Thoughtful cognitive neuroscientists such as Rex Jung, Darya Zabelina, Andreas Fink, John Kounios, Mark Beeman, Kalina Christoff, Oshin Vartanian, Jeremy Gray, Hikaru Takeuchi and others are on the forefront of investigating what actually happens in the brain during the creative process. And their findings are overturning conventional notions surrounding the neuroscience of creativity.

The latest findings from the real neuroscience of creativity suggest that the right brain/left brain distinction is not the right one when it comes to understanding how creativity is implemented in the brain. Creativity does not involve a single brain region or single side of the brain.

Finally, we can get away from this right/left brain nonsense.  It's your whole brain.

Tracey Vickery's curator insight, September 8, 2014 8:07 PM

Definitely like everything else in the brain...it takes multiple areas/processes to prompt a response/outcome.   Why would creativity be any different?
