| Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Innovating Pedagogy 2019: Learning can be wonderful!

Innovating Pedagogy 2019: Learning can be wonderful! | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Learning can be playful, wonderful, a way of understanding and making sense of the world” (Innovating Pedagogy 2019).

It’s here! If you are like me, you have been waiting since mid November for the release of the seventh Innovating Pedagogy report. The 2019 edition is a departure of the usual end of year publication date, hence the chronology moved from 2017 to 2019. I personally welcome the change, as it allows us at AACE Review to start the year with a fresh set of pedagogical innovations to contemplate.

The Open University published this edition in collaboration with the Centre for the Science of Learning & Technology (SLATE), University of Bergen, Norway. As usual, the report proposes ten innovations that are already in currency but have not had a profound influence on education in their current form. Each trend is rated based on its impact (high or medium) and placed on a timeline for adoption (ongoing, 2-5 years, 4+ years).

How is AI used in Education -- Real world examples of today and a peek into the future | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

While the debate regarding how much screen time is appropriate for children rages on among educators, psychologists, and parents, it’s another emerging technology in the form of artificial intelligence and machine learning that is beginning to alter education tools and institutions and changing what the future might look like in education. It is expected that artificial intelligence in U.S. education will grow by 47.5% from 2017-2021 according to the Artificial Intelligence Market in the US Education Sector report. Even though most experts believe the critical presence of teachers is irreplaceable, there will be many changes to a teacher’s job and to educational best practices.

What's most important when you need to take a "Mobile-first" instructional design approach? | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

A mobile-first approach meant a significant shift in my design thinking needed to occur. Making sure that our eLearning authoring tool was “responsive”, automatically adjusting images to fit the size of the screen learners were using was important, but it wasn’t nearly the only thing we’d need to keep in mind.

Ever since rapid eLearning made its foray into corporate training, it has been a subject of debate in the L&D world – what is rapid eLearning? What advantages does the strategy offer over custom eLearning? Is it just a strategy of producing ‘cheap’, low-quality eLearning? It has been debated far and wide. As a result, though this learning strategy has had many proponents among various learning communities and has grown immensely over the past few years, rapid eLearning still remains one of the biggest misunderstood learning strategies.

10 things this Instructor loves

10 things this Instructor loves | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Do most professors wish they could teach their students how to be students before the first class, or is it just the inner control freak in me?

Last fall, in an effort to help my students avoid doing things that frustrate their teachers, including me, I posted an article on my course website under the header "10 Things Every College Professor Hates," written by a sociology professor at Occidental College. I thought it was a lighthearted (and yes, indirect, since I hadn’t written the piece) way for me to make my life easier by changing their behavior. Even more important, I wanted to prevent students from having a negative relationship with me and other faculty members.

I don’t know how many of them actually read it, but the ones who did may well have been more offended than enlightened. So last spring, when the new semester got underway, I decided to give them much the same message, but in my own words and with an affectionate and respectful tone.

As the Trump administration this week convenes a panel of experts to consider rewriting federal policies around digital learning and innovation, the eternal tension between fostering experimentation and protecting educational quality will be on prominent display.

The process, known as negotiated rule making -- or “neg reg,” for those in a rush -- began Tuesday with a wide-ranging session on the role of accreditors in policing innovation. This Thursday and Friday, three separate subcommittees will meet concurrently, including one on distance education whose meeting will be streamed online. Those groups will convene again for another two-day round in February, and once more in March.

These 10 hard and soft SKILLS will be key in 2019

These 10 hard and soft SKILLS will be key in 2019 | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

It’s not always easy to measure soft skills, but more and more, they’re proving crucial in an increasingly competitive workforce facing a shortage of highly-qualified workers, according to new data from LinkedIn.

A large majority (89 percent) of professionals feel their skills are more important than their job titles, according to 2018 LinkedIn research that paints a picture of the changing workforce and the skills that will help workers achieve the most success.

Additional LinkedIn Learning research notes that the combination of a short shelf life of skills, combined with a tightening labor market, leads to skills gaps. Talent developers, executives, and people managers agree that training for soft skills is a top priority for talent development teams–all the more reason why job applicants should focus on strengthening those skills. In fact, 57 percent of senior leaders today say soft skills are more important than hard skills.

Sometimes the best Tech is no Tech

Sometimes the best Tech is no Tech | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Most educational stakeholders are old enough to remember the days when every single software program and platform that they used had to be purchased at top dollar. In light of this memory, free apps and websites can seem like an unimaginable resource. And they can be. But they aren’t always. After all, the resource itself might be free, but every resource requires professional development time, instructional time, and an opportunity cost, not to mention time spent choosing, implementing, and evaluating the resource. This means that the price tag is still quite high, even if the resource itself is free.
