Un sistema desactualizado y desarticulado | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Are we educating for Life or School?

Are we educating for Life or School? | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Whether it’s my Uber driver, a parent, teacher, student etc. It seems that more often than not in various conversations I have people tell me that they (or their children) don’t “learn that way” in reference to how we traditionally do school. People explain that they are visual or like to work with their hands or need to talk to others and try some things out, which they often explain, is not how they were supposed to “learn” in school. Instead, success was determined by sitting still, individually completing endless packets or worksheets, and providing the right answers on the tests.

5 ways teachers can stay current with developments in pedagogy

5 ways teachers can stay current with developments in pedagogy | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Most teachers- both new to the field and the ones that are experienced are apprehensive at the moment that they do not have the requisite skills and training that is necessary to educate their students properly with technology. Some even think that, education technology may somehow disrupt their teaching methods or even go as far as replacing them in the classroom. While, feeling anxious about new professional challenges are natural, the crux of the matter is to not let fear overrule mind.

They need to rather take things in good spirit for implementing edtech will help them to resolve many challenges in their day- to-day pedagogical approaches and improve students’ learning. This also brings us to our point of discussion here in this piece - how can teachers stay current with developments in pedagogy?

By incorporating edtech, teachers can try out different methods to keep students interested in the subject matter, as well as keep them motivated to learn. It’s also an opportunity for them to enhance students’ needs as well as their interests. Thus teachers have to set aside a few minutes to explore the various technology enabled pedagogical practices, the variety of learning tools and products available to make it learning easier for the students.

Microlearning and mLearning: The two trends you should adopt right now

Microlearning and mLearning: The two trends you should adopt right now | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

According to data collected by StatCounter Global Stats [1], 55.12% of all worldwide internet sessions are mobile. The stats from SimilarWeb [2] are even higher – 63%. Moving toward a mobile-first experience means drastic changes in the way people assess and consume content. eLearning content is no exception.

Over the many years the internet has been with us, the primary way of viewing online content was through a browser. Now, things have changed. With our mobile devices in hand, we don’t open a browser to see what’s new on Facebook, we go straight to the app; and if we have a question or need to make a note or reminder, there are personal voice assistants ready to help.

As for learning, people also tend to look for answers outside of traditional channels (formal training and courses). To find the information they need for their jobs, employees turn to their smartphones and get just-in-time solutions. All we can do now is try using it to our advantage and get started with special tools for mobile learning development.

Will Gamification work for everyone?

Will Gamification work for everyone? | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Gamification is one of the hottest topics in eLearning today. In short, Gamification involves adding elements to eLearning similar to what you would find in an online game. For example, participants are given “avatars” and compete with each other for points, badges, or access to higher levels of the “game.”

Gamification’s benefits are reported to include rapid feedback and higher levels of engagement and excitement. For as long as I’ve been involved in learning, educators have searched for ways to move beyond passive learning (e.g., classroom lecture) to more active learning, and Gamification seems to move learning in that direction.

MIT is investing $1 billion in an AI College

MIT is investing $1 billion in an AI College | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Ever since the beginning of the AI boom in the early 2010s, there’s been a corresponding drought in talented AI developers and researchers. The way to fix this is to educate more of them, and today, MIT announced a $1 billion initiative to do exactly that: it will establish a new college of computing to train the next generation of machine learning mavens.

Importantly, the college isn’t just about training AI skills. Instead, it will focus on what MIT president L. Rafael Reif calls “the bilinguals of the future.” By that, he means students in fields like biology, chemistry, physics, politics, history, and linguistics who also know how to apply machine learning to these disciplines. (Presumably, Reif feels safe borrowing the term “bilingual” because, in the future, AI will be doing all the translation anyway.)

How to keep the Humanity in online courses

How to keep the Humanity in online courses | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

If you have ever taken or considered taking an online course, you are well aware of some of the challenges and criticisms that online courses face. Some consider the fact that there is no physical, literal classroom a disadvantage. Others consider it an advantage. When taking an online course, it is true that there are no students in the desks next to you, and that there may be hundreds or even more than a thousand students participating in the same class. The lack of a physical classroom, however, does not have to be a disadvantage. One advantage of online courses is that students from all over the world with a wide variety of backgrounds, cultures, and languages are coming together to learn, collaborate, and share their ideas together.

To do this you need a new learning mindset as well as a new toolset and skillset.

What automation means for schools

What automation means for schools | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

In 2017, a Foundation of Young Australians (FYA) report analysed over 20 billion hours of work completed by 12 million Australian workers across 400 occupations each year to predict the skills and capabilities that will matter most in 2030.

The report found that automation is going to change what employees do in almost every occupation.

FYA CEO, Jan Owen, said the report highlights the transformational changes affecting the way Australians work and live.

“Technological advancement and global trends are changing the nature of work, the structure of economies, and the types of skills needed by labour forces across the world,” Owen said.

Blended Learning in the workplace: What works and what doesn’t

Blended Learning in the workplace: What works and what doesn’t | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

We’ve established that blended learning [1] is one of the most successful learning methods for the corporate environment. There are also many types of blended learning designs, and we have determined that there are a few approaches you can take to ensure the program is not set to fail. The considerations we are discussing here relate to steps you can take during the blended learning program design.

When implementing a blended learning program, comprehensive redesigns demand a lot of effort, and the more change that is required, the harder it can be to scale. While we advise taking the time required for a comprehensive redesign, if indeed that is feasible, developers can tend to err on the side of caution to ease implementation of a new program. The risk here is designing interventions that are not a significant departure from the original offering, and while that may be comforting to the learner, this type of cosmetic restructuring is not as effective in terms of learning outcomes.

Responsive eLearning Design and how to optimize it

Responsive eLearning Design and how to optimize it | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Emerging technologies in education are making eLearning content more accessible than ever before. Learners often engage with this content not only through desktop computers but also through their smartphones or tablets to consume valuable information anytime they have a few minutes to spare. This trend has a positive effect on engagement, but it means that eLearning content has to be optimized for these users. In other words, you need to apply responsive design principles to eLearning content to deliver an optimal and seamless experience to all users using multiple devices.

One of the common practices of responsive design is to allow mobile users, for example, to access content on a smaller screen from smartphones or tablets. Most websites resize when accessed on a mobile device, and some of the content might be hidden or replaced.

Instructional Design vs Learning Experience Design: Is there really a difference?

Instructional Design vs Learning Experience Design: Is there really a difference? | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

I’m an educator in the heart and by trade, and I have played many roles in the industry including that of the instructor, curriculum writer, course developer, and Instructional Designer. Now, I work full time as an eLearning Strategist – a combination of the above – depending on what my clients need. In April 2018, I joined a UX+UI (User Experience and User Interface) Bootcamp with the goal of building mobile learning apps (for adults, not kids). With my new skills and knowledge, I started searching for clients and/or projects with the same goal.

I added new UX keywords to my original search (user research, information architecture, etc.) and to my surprise, I found a new world, Learning Experience Design or LXD. Out of curiosity and FOMO, I wanted to know what it was, how it may impact the work I do, and whether there was an opportunity there.
