How teachers create Personal Learning Networks on Social Media

How teachers create Personal Learning Networks on Social Media  | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

“Do you have colleagues that seem to be able to stay on top of the latest issues, trends, and resources in education? They make networking look so easy and you're wondering, ‘Where do they have the time to do this, and where are they getting all this information?’’’ (0:01) begins Jerry Pettigrew, a CPI Global Professional Manager, at the top of his interview with Tom Whitby, founder of #Edchat and author of The Relevant Educator, a book about how connectedness through electronic media and forums helps empower educators.

Whitby understands that the internet can be an overwhelming ocean of information, but it can also be an irreplaceable asset if you know where to look. In this interview, Tom will show you how to create a personal learning network to connect with other educators and discover resources to help you have more impact, find solutions to problems, invigorate your lessons, and keep your passion ignited.

| Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Education Technology predictions for 2019

Education Technology predictions for 2019 | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Among educators and IT managers, the biggest issue for 2019 is whether EdTech will deliver on the promise of improving educational outcomes and extending quality education to students of all backgrounds more efficiently and at lower cost than traditional styles of teaching. While many EdTech enhancements, such as digital text books and the increased use of video have had demonstrable results; other emerging styles, such as adaptive learning have shown some progress, but are yet to deliver definitive results.

Two other growing trends for 2019 are eSports and improving the on-line learning experience. Fielding competitive eSports teams requires highly-capable systems and high-performance networks. To extend the campus experience to non-resident online students, schools are making better use of video, robotics, and virtual reality.

The future of education is now

The future of education is now | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

There is no shortage of challenges facing the world today. Conflict and instability are driving waves of migration, prompting political responses that range from open to hostile. Inequalities are rising and wages are stagnant in many OECD countries, a phenomenon widely blamed for public discontent. Trust in government is at its lowest in decades. Societies are more connected than ever, but also more divided and polarised – and many of our online interactions are tainted by anger, misinformation and cyberbullying.

When discussing such a wide array of diverse and complex problems, it is astonishing how often people come to a single, clear and convincing solution: better education. We certainly believe in the power of education to transform the world for the better. But in our rapidly changing world, education cannot rely on lessons of the past to prepare us for the future. Responsible policy making does not push present problems into the future; it pulls future developments into the present, and turns them into an opportunity to learn and prepare.

Recent research from the likes of Bersin by Deloitte, Fosway and many more revealed the learning habits of modern professionals in 2018. The results paint a picture of employees adapting to cope with the fast pace of modern working life. They are often busy and overwhelmed but still keen to learn; they value high quality content that’s personalized and relevant to their needs; and they are getting increasingly impatient and turned off by content and experiences that isn’t high value, relevant, and available when they want it.

Global report predicts EdTech spend to reach $252bn by 2020

Global report predicts EdTech spend to reach $252bn by 2020 | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Leading education technology-focused conference, EdTechXGlobal has today released its forecast for the biggest trends set to impact the EdTech industry in 2016, from a report produced in partnership with IBIS Capital. Ahead of the annual summit in June, the report also demonstrates how the EdTech market has changed dramatically, with a growing realisation of the impact EdTech is having on the way skills are acquired and developed for the 21st Century workforce.

The report finds EdTech market acceleration will be hugely dictated by the global education expenditure market, as education becomes increasingly more expensive. In fact, the market is now over $5tn, 8x the size of the software market and 3x size of the media and entertainment industry, yet education is only 2% digitised. With the market expanding rapidly, so too is the annual summit, which will this year take place over two-days in London, with the launch of an inaugural Asian event in November.

3 eLearning trends to look for in 2019

3 eLearning trends to look for in 2019 | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

I read a lot of “what’s coming in (insert year)” articles. I do feel like there are some trends that are featured every year. For example, gamification is ALWAYS included in a trend prediction round-up. Microlearning finds its way onto these sort of lists, as well. And of course, we can’t forget mobile—the trend that never dies!

Just because those techniques are listed every year doesn’t make them any less important. However, because the internet—myself included—has talked about those plenty, I’m going to skip them today. Let’s talk about some NEW trends for 2019 that weren’t that big in 2018. Exciting, right?

[Paper] The evolution of Open Learning: A review of the transition from pre-eLearning to the era of eLearning

[Paper] The evolution of Open Learning: A review of the transition from pre-eLearning to the era of eLearning | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

This paper offers a summary of the developments that open learning has gone through, from the stages before e-learning emerged to when it carved out a niche position. It first analyzes how open learning moved through five stages, and identifies the characteristics and dominant technology at each stage. The five stages cover the period from correspondence learning in the 19th century to the present era of interactive online learning. It then examines how the term “open learning” has been defined in published work and how the definitions have evolved. From these definitions of open learning, seven semantic components were identified. The frequencies with which each of these components were adopted in the definitions in three periods since 1990 were then analyzed, revealing the changes in the meanings of open learning. In an extended discussion, this paper sums up the evolution of open learning and highlights some of the factors that have driven the changes. It also predicts how education will evolve with e-learning.

4 ways to reduce Cognitive Load in eLearning

4 ways to reduce Cognitive Load in eLearning | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

When designing and developing an eLearning course, it’s easy to stuff it with all of the required content and push it to your learners. However, a critical part of being a good instructional designer is not only considering what content you include in your eLearning course but also how you communicate it.

The effectiveness of any eLearning course depends on how the learner processes the information provided, and whether or not that information is retained into long-term memory. This is where Cognitive Load Theory comes into play. If you’re not familiar with Cognitive Load Theory, I highly suggested you check out this great explanation by Connie Malamed.

Learning in complexity and chaos

Learning in complexity and chaos | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it
Most of our current work structures are designed to address complicated situations, such as constructing a building, launching a campaign, or designing a piece of equipment. But more of our challenges are complex and cannot be solved in a standard way — inequality, refugees, populism, racism. Whenever people are involved, within a global context of climate change, the situation is likely complex. In complex situations there is less reliance on detailed plans and analysis and a greater emphasis on continuous experimentation coupled with good observation and tracking. We have to learn constantly in complexity.

Aprender a aprender (learn to learn): Transformación metacognitiva

| Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it
