Flipping the curriculum could help us meet the demands of the artificial-intelligence era

Technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and biotech are redefining what it means to be human—and employable.

Jobs are disappearing as automation replaces the need for people. New occupations are emerging that demand competencies that can transfer across the multiple assignments workers will experience in their lives. The disappearance of global boundaries presents opportunities—and risks—for all workers.

These changes demand a significant, ambitious evolution in how we prepare students for their future in a world that's increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous. We need a relevant and modernized education.

Looking into the future Of Distance Education. Is this reality?

Chong Jiaxuan's comment, March 9, 9:58 AM
According to the article, education now focusses more on information and data, followed by understanding and knowledge, and in last place, transfer of expertise. However, in the future, when artificial intelligence becomes common, education needs to focus on transfer of expertise before everything else. I feel that this is rather true. Knowledge of events and subjects might give you a boost in your career, but what is more important is the skills to learn, which is the transfer of expertise. Education needs to shift in order to meet this demand of skills needed in the future.
Julián David Cano's curator insight, March 20, 7:14 PM
It can be evidenced that a lot of aspects of education continue being as traditional as always. Nevertheless, I must highlight that nowadays people are becoming aware about the importance of incorporating technology into the classrooms. Although people are becoming aware, taking advantage of technology to improve the learning process is still a challenge.

This article is really interesting due to the fact that it provides specific examples of skills needed in this century, and that can be achieved through the use of technological devices. Also, this article made me think about my role as a future teacher and the responsibility to start making little changes into the classrooms in order to improve education and contribute positive aspects to it. it is clear that the article makes a direct relationship about technology and education, and how to prepare students to deal with the 21st century skills.

12 Ways To Use Padlet In Your Classroom Tomorrow!

12 Ways To Use Padlet In Your Classroom Tomorrow! | Educator Links - Becoming a better teacher | Scoop.it
Let me introduce you to one of my new go-to tech tools: Padlet. It's free, it's easy-to-use, and it's awesome. Oh, and did I mention... no signup needed? Padlet is essentially a digital poster that can be individually or collaboratively created. Simply visit the website and click "Create" to get started building your "wall" today. Then,…

The Padlet is good to use when all the students have an internet connected device, a tablet, for example, and they have go in for audience polls, and short answers. The results and the responses can be seen by all on a screen in the classroom. All our classrooms have wifi and projectors which can be connected to laptops.
Willem Kuypers's curator insight, November 14, 2016 9:47 AM
Padlet, c'est un chouette outil. A utiliser, surtout aussi pour son aspect visuel.
Leslie Varela's curator insight, November 14, 2016 11:47 PM
In my opinión this interesting tool contributes to create a good atmosphere where students can interact and share their knowledge and investigations with the whole class. Personally, I would like to use this tool in three different ways: 1) Create a feedback wall where students can post suggestions and express concerns anonymously. 2) Build a matching exercise on the wall and have students rearrange the photos and text to solve, and 3) Create a digital map and have students post their findings about new cultures. The main idea is to teach the topics using other alternatives in order to motivate students participation.

Getting to know ADDIE: Part 2 - Design

Getting to know ADDIE: Part 2 - Design | Educator Links - Becoming a better teacher | Scoop.it

In the previous installment we took our first look at the ADDIE model. We learned its general characteristics, considered its advantages and disadvantages, and also discussed at length the first stage of the ADDIE methodology - Analysis. In this installment we will tell you about Design, the second stage of the ADDIE methodology. All the requisite data is gathered during the analysis stage. Once we have learned what the course’s target audience is, set the goals we aim to achieve, and determined the best way to deliver the information, it is time to set about laying out the structure of the course. This is precisely what happens during the second stage.

The second ADDIE stage is Design. The goal of this stage is to create the structure of the course. It can take the form of something as simple as a storyboard accompanied by some sketches, or as elaborate as a detailed plan, full of descriptions and schematics. Whatever form it takes, the layout of a course usually includes the descriptions of the main topics the course will cover and goals it sets out to achieve, as well as short descriptions of pages’ contents and a general idea of what the navigation and the user interface will look like. At the conclusion of this stage you should have on your hands a handy document you will use during the development stage, one that will contain the answers to the most questions course developers may have.

Thanks Inez Bieler! The graphic at the end listing Evidence-based Principles of Effective teaching: 1. Care about helping your students learn, 2. understand but do not excuse, 3. be clear about learning goals, 4. surface knowledge + deep understanding, 5. release responsibility, 6. give good feedback, 7. have students learn from each other, 8 manage behavior, 9. evaluate your impact, 10. always be learning ways to increase your impact. makes a good bookmark reminder. Self-assessment regularly would likely improve teaching more than many hours of random PD.
