Sarah Loor's insight:

The College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC) provides information in Spanish about how students can plan for and pay for college.  This information would be good for parents to read even if they have younger children so they can start thinking about what steps they may need to take for their children to go on to higher education.

¡Colorín Colorado! Bilingual Library Tipsheet

Sarah Loor's insight:
Also available in English (at http://www.colorincolorado.org/sites/default/files/Library_Tips_English.pdf), this is a fantastic tip sheet to help familiarize parents with what the library is and how to use it. This would be a great thing for school and public libraries to copy and keep on hand--there's even a place to add your own logo.

Sarah Loor's insight:

This article from ¡Colorín Colorado! is available in both English and in Spanish and  gives parents ideas for things they can do to get involved and help support their children academically.  Maybe a school library could pass copies of this (in both languages) out to parents at an event like open house.

¡Colorín Colorado!

Sarah Loor's insight:

¡Colorín Colorado! is a wealth of resources all about literacy for English language learners (primarily focusing on Spanish speakers).  The site is bilingual and has content for teachers, librarians, and parents.  This Scoop.it board highlights a few examples of this content specifically in separate posts, but if you are interested in helping connect Latino parents with educational resources for their children I highly recommend taking some time to browse the site for more resources.

Oh, and don't let the name confuse you--it's not just for people in Colorado.  The site is named after a phrase that is frequently found at the end of Spanish stories.

Collinswood and Oaklawn Language Academies

Collinswood and Oaklawn Language Academies | Helping Connect Charlotte's Latino Parents with Information to Support their Children's Education (A List of Resources for Librarians) | Scoop.it
Sarah Loor's insight:

Did you know that Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools has two K-8 dual language Spanish and English immersion magnet programs?  These schools are Collinswood Language Academy (http://schools.cms.k12.nc.us/collinswoodMS/Pages/Default.aspx) and Oaklawn Language Academy (http://schools.cms.k12.nc.us/oaklawnMS/Pages/Default.aspx).

These programs may be of particular interest to Spanish-speaking parents since their children can receive instruction in both languages and since the parents themselves may be able to take a more active role in helping with homework done in Spanish.

La Noticia - The Spanish-Language Newspaper

Sarah Loor's insight:

La Noticia is a Spanish-language weekly newspaper.  It is important for parents to keep abreast of changes that may be happening affecting the local schools as well as changes on the state level that may affect things like their children's access to financial aid for college, and the newspaper is one way they can do that.  There is a print version and a digital version is also available on their website.
