L'ecole de 2030 decrite par Le Monde aujourd'hui (et provenant du travail du WISE) me rappelle furieusement une academie de langues en ligne dont le nom commence par V et se termine par L. Coach qui facilite les apprentissages, personnalisation extreme des contenus, transmission en ligne....

婴儿们天生就是聆听者。在新生的最初几个月,他们就能辨别由人所产生的所有声音。这可不是一个可以小觑的本领:你我都做不到。一个典型的日本成年人分辨不出英文发音/l/和/r/的区别。一个典型的英国成年人无法识别出汉语中/ɕ/和/t͡ɕ/的微妙差异。本土美式英语中大量的/k/ 和/q/发音对于非印第安美国成年人来说也是很难区分的。还有加泰罗尼亚语中的半元音对比(/e/, /ɛ/)甚至对于说加泰罗尼亚语的成年西班牙人也是难以分辨的。 婴儿持续在聆听。在聆听的时候,他们的大脑自动统计在环境中被诉说的语言。对于一岁小朋友来说,发生在他们身上的是令人难以置信的语言转换。小朋友们愈发擅长分辨声音之中他们熟悉的语言(本土对比);但是他们彻底的忘记了侦查与他们无关的其他语言中的声音差别(非本土对比)。发生这种转化的年龄被称作关键语音期。这是所有语言关键期中最无可争议的一个时期。 令人惊异的是,在到达这一时期之前,小宝贝们可以被训练成习惯其它语言。Patricia Kuhl在其令人印象深刻的2010TED演讲中描绘了,一个汉语会话者如何通过12个阶段的训练使一个美国婴儿具备与10个半月大的中文会话的台湾小宝贝一样的效果:在实验末期,两组对象具备同等水平的汉语对比知觉能力。 还有两个这样的奇迹需要着重说明。第一,婴儿的大脑具备交际性。如果婴儿整天听得是其它语言声音对比的录音,不管是视频还是音频,他们的表现都会如同从未经过训练一样。但是,如果是由一个活生生的人来训练的话,婴儿们分辨差异的能力就会如同本土会话者一般。作为Patricia Kuhl实验室的一名研究者,Sarah Roseberry在2011年发现,不论本人是否出现在现场,社交因素都能起到作用,比如通过Skype之类的网络聊天,同声视频交流。 第二个奇迹便是成年人如何分辨婴儿们是否感受到了声音的对比。显然,婴儿还不会说话,不能明白研究人员想探寻的东西,也不能清楚的表达结果。在2009年的一个视频中,Derek Houston总结了历来被用作调查婴儿语音区分技能的三个常用方法: -          高振幅吮吸:传感器可以用来测量婴儿吮吸安抚奶嘴的振幅和速度。当播放不一样的声音时(并且被鉴别为不一样的),吮吸的反应就会发生变化 -          条件性转头:婴儿会被告知,当听到声音对比的时候,要转头来当做信号。如果他们不转头,说明他们不能听到声音对比 -          视觉适应性方法:当习惯于某个声音,婴儿们凝视视频播放的时间就会减少。观看时间突然增加就表明婴儿察觉出不同的声音 Kuhl在录像中提到,目前科学家正日渐寻求电生理学和神经影像技术,使人们可以直观看到大脑里发生的变化,不管声音对比是否被察觉.   更多详情,请查看科学文献: 1.《评估婴儿个人语言分辨能力》:Houston, D. 中国大陆来的人在美国,常见的社交场所一为华人教会,一为中文学校。中文学校孩子上课时,家长们三五成团,交流各自的房子和孩子,中文学校最终往往会成为虎妈集中营。

“美国不少家庭的孩子,中文学校是上一上,歇一歇,有一搭没一搭,辍学率也高。就我所知,大部分海外中文学校的教学和管理相当混乱。中文学校的老师是家长自愿来做,很多人毫无教学经验,不过是按照过去自己学习的记忆,刻舟求剑地在教着新的孩子。不是所有会说中文的人都会教中文,就如同不是所有的老外都能当外教一样。”


教师在教学方法上,应该把学习的核心,从内容转变到任务(task-based instruction)。一个学期下来,会几件这样的事,并围绕着它们学些汉字和表述方法,这样效果可能更好,起码学生知道学了怎么去用,而不是长年累月在“打基础”,学习和应用之间出现断裂。现在技术条件很好,也是改良教学的极佳机遇。比如孩子可以在国内开一微博或者微信,让孩子能在与国内亲朋好友分享、交流和互动之中,不知不觉地学习。当然如有公开的网络空间,家长需要在隐私保护、网络欺凌等方面加强支持、教育和监管。
