Student Created Content is an Exciting and Inspiring Learning Tool that Teaches Many Skills - EmergingEdTech

Student Created Content is an Exciting and Inspiring Learning Tool that Teaches Many Skills - EmergingEdTech | Education | Scoop.it

"This last Friday and Saturday at the Teaching and Learning with the iPad Conference, I had the distinct pleasure of watching students at different grade levels present multiple types of media that they created. It was one of the most enjoyable and inspiring activities that I have had the pleasure of experiencing in my time as a professional working in the field of education.

On Friday I watched professional quality newscasts, and short movies, created by Franklin Academy high school students. Several of these well spoken students demonstrate some of the equipment and tools that they used to create this content in this video. That same day I also thoroughly enjoyed having several elementary school students from Fuquay Varina Elementary School play movies they made in iMovie, and explain how they created them (here’s one of these movies, from students Sekou, Camren, and Colin).

On Saturday, Anthony DeLaura gave this great session on “Unleashing Creativity with iBooks Author”, and during this presentation, he showed this wonderful YouTube video:"

Murray has pointed out some of the possibilities of iBook Author for us as teachers but it could provide opportunities for students as well. However, students have Book Creator which is a great starting point for creating multimedia books with video, pictures, audio and text.  This article shows us some possibilities with our students as authors.

Mobile Education - Education Experts on Improving Learning with Mobile Technology

Education is at a tipping point. From the rising cost of a college education and the financial pressures upon local districts and state agencies to fund K-12 schools and programs, to the questions of how to employ mobile technologies and leverage social platforms to support the growing trend toward mobile, collaborative learning models, educators face an almost overwhelming set of challenges.

While there are no easy answers to these and other issues, Citrix believes strongly that online learning technologies can help enhance and extend the teaching and learning process and provide greater, more wide-spread access to education to students.

We are committed to developing and delivering learning solutions that will meet the evolving needs of teachers and students in this changing landscape. We hope that our sponsorship of this ebook and other projects will help you, the reader, gain a better understanding of the opportunities that online learning technologies provide, increase your mastery of these solutions, and enable you to put them to productive use.

We look forward to working with you as we explore new and effective ways to help teachers teach and learners learn.

The 21st century is challenging old notions of learning spaces

The 21st century is challenging old notions of learning spaces | Education | Scoop.it

Classrooms should be spaces that students don’t want to leave.  Some communities are still hesitant about these futuristic looking learning spaces and have resorted to older, traditional physical spaces. Hopefully, they will begin to embrace changes to better prepare students and move them in the 21st century global economy.

While I do not ascribe to everything mentioned in this post, there is much to commend it.

Schools and the learning spaces within them should be engaging and attractive places for children in which to learn. Outside of their home, school is where they spend a significant portion of their lives.

To construct better learning environments we need to deconstruct our traditional view of the classroom.
