Create timelines, share them on the web | Timetoast timelines

Create timelines, share them on the web | Timetoast timelines | Education | Scoop.it
Timetoast is a place to create timelines that you can add to your blog or website. You can create historical timelines of important events, or build a timeline of your vacation. It's all up to you.
Melissa Jackson's insight:

I love this site. Students can create timelines of almost anything. This would work definitely for history but I also thought it would work well in Language Arts when teaching about plot and progression. Students can create a timeline of a novel or short story. Students an add images and text and then use it as notes. They could really analyze the cause and effect of an event. The drawback is that there is no free option. Subscriptions run between five to eight dollars a month.

The workspace for your life’s work | Evernote

The workspace for your life’s work | Evernote | Education | Scoop.it
Bring your life's work together in one digital workspace. Evernote is the place to collect inspirational ideas, write meaningful words, and move your important projects forward.
Melissa Jackson's insight:

"Easily gather everything that matters. Clip web articles, capture handwritten notes, and snap photos to keep the physical and digital details of your projects with you at all times."  This would be great to use in Language Arts classes, especially when completing a research essay. Students could easily collect all the information in one place. They can even present it to the class using the application. A drawback to this is the fee. While you can get a free account, you will not be able to access all the tools.

Glogster EDU: A complete educational solution for digital and mobile teaching and learning. | Education | Scoop.it
The creative visual learning platform that every educator and student deserves.
Melissa Jackson's insight:

I spent so long exploring the possibilities of this site. With all the multimedia tools and different resources, imagine the projects your students could come up with. You could have them do a presentation about the constitution which many students find so boring. You could have them make a fun presentation including graphics, video, sounds, even their own creations. There is so much one can do with this site that is might be a little overwhelming at first, especially with students who are not very comfortable using technology.

Tagxedo - Word Cloud with Styles

Tagxedo - Word Cloud with Styles | Education | Scoop.it
Tagxedo turns words - famous speeches, news articles, slogans and themes, even your love letters - into a visually stunning word cloud
Melissa Jackson's insight:

This site looks like a lot of fun. Students create very cool and fun visuals using words. I would incorporate this into my English class when we are studying diction, poetry, characterization.  Any class could incorporate it when they are putting things into categories or classifying items. The possibilities are endless. I also think students would have a lot of fun with this and consider their own word choice. A drawback is even though students become very aware of the words they are using, it doesn't really use a lot of higher level critical thinking skills.

PrimaryPad is a web-based word processor designed for schools that allows pupils and teachers to work together in real-time. Look below to see how it works
Melissa Jackson's insight:

This is a web based word processor that works very much like Microsoft office, so many students will be familiar with it. Students are able to draft a paper and share it for instant teacher or peer feedback. The drawback is that there is a subscription fee.

Typing adventure

Click here to edit the title

Melissa Jackson's insight:

What a great tool to use for students who need help keyboarding! Even though it is for younger students, older students could benefit from it too! The game is simple and older students might get a little bored.  However, it reinforces good keyboarding skills and increasing speed. I would use this with students who need extra help with keyboarding skills and when their hunting and pecking slowed down their progress.

ClassDojo

ClassDojo | Education | Scoop.it
Teachers, try ClassDojo! Students love the positive feedback and learn much faster. Plus, now you can instantly message with parents!
Melissa Jackson's insight:

This application would be great for behavior and participation. I grade students how they contribute to class discussions. I could have this app on my Ipad and easily reward students points for comments and questions. And all the information is right there for me when I complete the grades. Parents are even able to see all the data collected. A drawback is that is geared more for younger grades and might be a little too juvenile for high school.
