How to Create a Video on Typito

How to Create a Video on Typito | Education | Scoop.it

Typito is a new-to-me video creation tool about which I wrote a short review last weekend. Typito sits comfortably between the simplicity of tools like Animoto and the complexity of tools like WeVideo. I received a few questions about Typito during the week so I made the following video to demonstrate how it works.

We have taught many different classes that has a Prezi as the final required product.  The students seem to enjoy using this tool, especially because it is web-based.  It is getting more user-friendly as it gets more attention from mainstream users.  We would love to teach a lesson on Prezi for students or personal use!

Beth Dichter's curator insight, December 20, 2013 9:30 PM

This post discusses five games that help student develop critical thinking skills and to build good arguments. The games are:
* Quandary - This game has you develop a colony in outer space. Students need to help settle disputes and solve problems.
* Citizen Science - Another game that requires you to use persuasive skills to help solve problems but these problems are related to science.
* Argument Wars -This game is part of iCivics. Students "use their persuasive abilities by arguing a real Supreme Court case". This site provides resources including lesson plans and worksheets as well as a teacher's guide.

* The Republia Times - A game that typically takes 10 minutes or so, the student becomes the editor of a paper and has to curate the front page.

* Papers, Please - In this game the student is an immigration officer in a ficticious country and must make decisions based on evidential arguments presented.

More information on each game is available in the post as well as links to each.

While technology changes quickly, new avenues open all the time for learning and education.

Our economy changes as well, from a world of manufacturing and fulfilling basic needs, to  highly specialized products and services created in quickly evolving technology and social media.

Startups are becoming an economic model that allow new ideas to develop and being injected into mainstream business.

The way we educate ourselves and our children changes thoroughly. Almost from the day our children are born they get very different toys than we did. They learn how to think in new ways.

Games  better teach us some great skills. This is a great article. Good to see how education evolves with technology.

Bring Your Own Device Toolkit

Bring Your Own Device Toolkit | Education | Scoop.it

Today’s education system is evolving to take full advantage of the potential of mobile technology devices to inspire learning and create independent, critical thinkers. However, with tight budgets, many schools are hoping to bring technology into the classroom without the costly burden of purchasing a device for each student. One potential solution that is being explored is BYOD, or Bring Your Own Device. This allows students to bring their personal laptops, tablets, and smartphones from home and use them for educational applications in the classroom. At a time when budgets are shrinking, school districts are considering BYOD programs to integrate cost-effective technology into their educational programs. It’s a promising idea, especially for schools that lack sufficient technology budgets. BYOD takes advantage of the technology that students already own and are familiar with. However, BYOD programs have been met with some criticism from staff and administrators who believe the challenges outweigh the perceived benefits.
