But here’s the thing: the history of social media actually goes back a lot further, and its roots can be found in blogging, Google, AOL, ICQ, the beginnings of the world wide web and, perhaps surprisingly, CompuServe.

Teachers Easy Guide on How to Evaluate Web content for Classroom Inclusion

Teachers Easy Guide on How to Evaluate Web content for Classroom Inclusion | EdTech | Authentic Technology Integration | Challenge Based Learning | Scoop.it

As our students grow dependant on Internet being a primary source for their information, it becomes of urgent necessity that we, as teachers and educators, should know how to evaluate web content and decipher credible resources from spam and irrelevant ones. Regrettably enough, some of the teachers who are using technology in their instruction still don't come to grips with the mechanisms used to sift through internet content. There is a crude analogy to this situation . A teacher who does not evaluate the web content he shares with his students is like a person driving a car without having a driver license, he can still drive his car but he does not know the real dangers he is putting himself to in doing so.

12 Ways To Use Google Search In School, By Degree Of Difficulty | Edudemic

12 Ways To Use Google Search In School, By Degree Of Difficulty | Edudemic | EdTech | Authentic Technology Integration | Challenge Based Learning | Scoop.it

I’ve been completely obsessed with Google’s new mini-site devoted to finding better ways to incorporate proper web searches into the classroom. Dubbed ‘Search Education,’Google’s new site has an array of lesson plans, videos (check a sample out below), concept maps, and other tools designed to help any educator properly integrate Google.

This is just the logical next step for the search (and basically everything else) behemoth as Google pushes its way into the classroom.

As part of Search Education, Google has shared a bunch of lesson plans that are organized by degree of difficulty.

So, if you consider yourself and / or your students Google experts, you should try out the more advanced plans. If you don’t know what ‘boolean’ means, then you probably should start with the more basic stuff.

The following are just some of the many lesson plans brought to you by Google.

AZk12 - Professional Development for Educators

AZk12 - Professional Development for Educators | EdTech | Authentic Technology Integration | Challenge Based Learning | Scoop.it

The Technology Integration Matrix (TIM) illustrates how teachers can use technology to enhance learning for K-12 students. The TIM incorporates five interdependent characteristics of meaningful learning environments: active, collaborative, constructive, authentic, and goal directed (Jonassen, Howland, Moore, & Marra, 2003). The TIM associates five levels of technology integration (i.e., entry, adoption, adaptation, infusion, and transformation) with each of the five characteristics of meaningful learning environments. Together, the five levels of technology integration and the five characteristics of meaningful learning environments create a matrix of 25 cells.

Blending and flipping modern architecture - Casting Out Nines

Blending and flipping modern architecture - Casting Out Nines | EdTech | Authentic Technology Integration | Challenge Based Learning | Scoop.it

There’s a lot on this blog about the flipped or inverted classroom, and it’s primarily from the mathematics and STEM perspective. How might the inverted classroom might look in the humanities or social sciences?  Jeff Schramm, an associate professor of History and Political Science at Missouri University of Science and Technology, discusses details his use of the flipped classroom in a history of architecture course.

- The Chronicle of Higher Education

Brian H. Burnett's insight:

How many of you reading this have a formal dining room in your home? A separate room, not just a dining area in a kitchen or great room. How often does this dining room get used for its intended purpose? Daily? Weekly? A couple times a year on major holidays?

This is how Jeff begins his Architecture, Technology and Society, 1750-present class. His first attempt at helping his students think about the built environment and what their house, school, favorite sports arena, and place of worship says about them and the society and culture in which they live. Jeff has been teaching the course as a blended (or hybrid) online and face-to-face course and utilize a flipped model where substantial lecture is delivered online by short videos and classroom time is used generally for other, non-lecture activities.
