Edinburgh Evening News: A Lothian buses driver has been praised for his selfless actions after giving his fire extinguisher to a motorist whose car had burst into flames. Chris Castle was driving the number 38 bus along Cluny Gardens at around 6.30pm on Monday when up ahead he saw flames coming from the bonnet of a BMW X3.

The 31-year-old was about to get out of his cabin when a man, understood to be the car’s owner, pleaded for help after his own extinguisher had run out. Without thinking twice, Chris pulled the bus over a safe distance away from the blaze and located the extinguisher to help tackle the fire.

Edinburgh Evening News: Part of Edinburgh’s historic City Chambers is to become Scotland’s flagship tourism information centre to capitalise on the number of visitors flooding into the Royal Mile. VisitScotland is to move its long-running visitor centre from a site off Princes Street to a state-of-the-art facility on the Royal Mile, opposite the headquarters of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

The switch is expected over the next few months after the government agency struck a deal with the city council to use part of the building 
before it was put on the open market. An official report for councillors reveals that VisitScotland has decided its visitor centre, which has been based for decades on the roof of Waverley Mall, is “no longer fit for purpose”.

Edinburgh Reporter: Edinburgh business Ezeepedal is enjoying increased demand from visitors with its electric bikes. The easy to use cycles can reach speeds of up to 16 mph which is a welcome boost on some of the city's hills.

Founder John Harrison-Church who invested £14,000 in 10 British manufactured bikes in February 2017, piloted the business in the city last year and was delighted with the response not only from tourists but from locals too. Edinburgh Evening News: The first of 26 upgraded InterCity trains has arrived in Edinburgh and will get to work in the coming weeks, according to ScotRail. The operator said its train arrived at the Haymarket depot in Edinburgh on Friday evening.

BBC News: Edinburgh Airport has become the busiest ever Scottish airport. Figures from July showed more than 1.5 million passengers made their way through the airport, the highest figure ever recorded. That represented a 6.3% increase on the same month last year, with growth in both domestic and international travellers.

Scotsman: Support for a tourist tax is growing, council chiefs claimed today as Airbnb and Virgin Hotels both said they were happy to operate such a levy. Council leader Adam McVey said: “We have had significant engagement with the industry on the detail about how it would be levied. I’m finding quite a lot of support within the industry based in Edinburgh 
for it.”

The Spaces:  Macaulay Sinclair has converted a 1930s banking hall in Edinburgh into a restaurant for London steakhouse Hawksmoor that retains many of the original building’s Neoclassical features. The 160-cover restaurant occupies a vast hall on the ground floor of a Grade A-listed building, which was once the Royal Bank of Scotland’s global headquarters.

The building was unoccupied for several years before local developer Lateral City began an adaptive reuse project that provides 50 serviced apartments, alongside the restaurant and a bar on the fourth floor. Macaulay Sinclair’s design seeks to preserve the character of the impressively proportioned space, which was influenced by the Neoclassical styling of early 20th-century American banking halls.
