Google Drive in Class: 38 Ideas by Sean Junkins

Google Drive in Class: 38 Ideas by Sean Junkins | Ed Tech | Scoop.it

August 11, 2014
This is the third post in a series of posts aimed at helping teachers and educators make the best out of Google Drive in classrooms. This series comes in a time when teachers are getting ready to start a new school year and hopefully will provide them with the necessary know-how to help them better integrate Google Drive in their teaching pedagogy. The two previous posts featured in this series were entitled consecutively "New Google Drive Cheat Sheet" and "Teachers Visual Guide to Google Drive Sharing". Today's post covers some interesting ideas and tips on how to go about using Google Drive in your classroom. This work is created by Sean Junkins from SeansDesk.

Bringing the Rural Classroom into the Digital Age

Bringing the Rural Classroom into the Digital Age | Ed Tech | Scoop.it
"Managed by the Federal Communications Commission, E‑Rate allows schools and libraries to buy technology services (such as Internet access) at a discount from communications providers. E-Rate then compensates those providers for the amount of the discount. Lower-income schools and a few rural schools receive larger discounts than their wealthier counterparts. And federal rules prioritize who gets how much for what service."

Awesome Digital Citizenship Graphic for your Classroom | Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

Awesome Digital Citizenship Graphic for your Classroom | Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Ed Tech | Scoop.it

Digital citizenship is " the norms of appropriate, responsible behavior with regard to technology use."

It is the combination of technical and social skills that enable a person to be successful and safe in the information age. Just like literacy and numeracy initiatives which provide people with the skills to ' participate in the work force, digital literacy has become an essential skill to be a confident, connected, and actively involved life long learner.'

I personally recommend that teachers and educators should, throughout the entire school year, devote special sessions to just teaching students about Digital Citizenship. Students need to learn how to act appropriately while using the net and there are several activities and resources to help you do that with them. Check out this section  to access some of these resources. I am also sharing with you today a great graphic on the components of digital citizenship.Try out printing it and using it with your students in the classroom. It is really wonderful. Click headline to view graphic full screen--

46 Tools To Make Infographics In The Classroom

46 Tools To Make Infographics In The Classroom | Ed Tech | Scoop.it

Infographics are interesting–a mash of (hopefully) easily-consumed visuals (so, symbols, shapes, and images) and added relevant character-based data (so, numbers, words, and brief sentences).

The learning application for them is clear, with many academic standards–including the Common Core standards–requiring teachers to use a variety of media forms, charts, and other data for both information reading as well as general fluency...

it442's curator insight, May 16, 2013 12:45 AM

This article is really interesting. It talks about the difference between merely using technology, and actually integrating it into the classroom. It gives scenarios, examples, and compares and contrasts the ideas of "using" and "integrating". I found it to be a good reminder of the ideas that our lessons should not be based around the technology itself, but instead, used in the same way as any other learning tool, to help make learning accessible.

~Trent VanDyken

Elsa Mansfield's curator insight, May 16, 2013 6:21 PM

Being purposeful about incorporating technology in our learning tasks will be vital to being an effective teacher. Students need to be taught how to use these tools and navigate the volume of information the internet presents. Using technology without direction and purpose can create problems and wastes tremendous potential.

it442's curator insight, May 16, 2013 10:04 PM

Elsa Mansfield-This article talks about using technology to learn instead of learning how to use technology. Integration involves making technology a part of the everyday classroom, and using it to engage studetns with information or content. I like the idea of being very purposeful with employing technology in a variety of ways and incorporating technology in our learning tasks constantly.  Using technology without direction and purpose can create problems and wastes tremendous potential.

Baiba Svenca's curator insight, May 2, 2013 2:00 PM

Stampsy is a new iPad app for creating digital content. The steps are easy to follow - add images and text to your page using drag-and-drop method. Change colours or fonts, and design the page as you like.

The result you'll get is a linear presentation with great visual potential, perfect for storytelling purposes.

There is a small inconvenience though - you will need a Facebook account to use the application.

The app is free. Download it here https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/stampsy/id582398120?mt=8

ghbrett's curator insight, May 8, 2013 9:32 AM

Stampsy is an interesting graphic tool currently for the iPad. It has a few necessry tools such as Headline, Text, Images, Colour Palette, Various Fonts, and best of all it is limited to 10 pages. If Powerpoints were limited to 10 pages I wonder how much real information would be lost? No doubt we'd see the important information. Check it out.
