5 Powerful Questions Teachers Can Ask Students

5 Powerful Questions Teachers Can Ask Students | Ed tech | Scoop.it
"My first year teaching a literacy coach came to observe my classroom. After the students left, she commented on how I asked the whole class a question, would wait just a few seconds, and then answer it myself. "It's cute," she added. Um, I don't think she thought it was so cute. I think she was treading lightly on the ever-so shaky ego of a brand-new teacher while still giving me some very necessary feedback. So that day, I learned about wait/think time. And also, over the years, I learned to ask better and better questions."

Digital badges in the classroom

Digital badges in the classroom | Ed tech | Scoop.it
Certifying and Valuing Digital Badges is an important area to consider. Anyone can visit Credly and begin developing digital badges, and this raises the question of validity. Smartly, though, Credly will certify an “issuer” (an individual or institution offering the badge) after a thorough vetting process and an annual fee of $150. This extra layer of authentication is highly recommended.
Via Alberto Acereda, Ph.D.
Cindy Corritore's insight:
Thinking about how thus could be used in my App Development junior level course at our University. Any ideas out there? Perhaps if a student gets so many homeworks at a certain level, they earn a badge. This could be a way to recognize excellence as typically students don't see end of course grades of their peers.

The Many Benefits of Using iBooks in Education - Emerging EdTech

The Many Benefits of Using iBooks in Education - Emerging EdTech | Ed tech | Scoop.it
"Apple’s electronic books are an excellent compliment to their tablets and to the needs of education. Even before the computer revolution, the significant materials demands for teaching and learning were a bone of contention. For school administrations, textbooks and supplementary materials are a giant money pit; for teachers, generating endless handouts is a time-sink, and for students, organizing — and carrying — reams of xeroxed sheets and monumental textbooks is cumbersome, to say the least."
