16 Reasons To Learn A Language Through Story

16 Reasons To Learn A Language Through Story | 21C Learning | Scoop.it
In fact, according to a study in Scientific American, personal stories and gossip makeup 65% of our communication. If the way we all communicate is by telling or listening to stories or one kind or another, why would you learn a foreign language in any other way?

Technology Integration, 1 to 1, and Student Centered Learning… Up To 20 Free Resources and Tools | 21 st Century Educational Technology and Learning | 21C Learning | Scoop.it

"In the last post I focused on five important ideas I believe need to be in place to support student centered learning in a technology rich environment. Please note those five concepts be reviewing that first post.

In this post I wish to add to the ten tools I had shared in the last post. Remember that the items I have collected might be a tool, possibly a resource, or collection of resources. It might directly rely on technology or could possibly be a catalyst for integration through its implementation. I hope you find the next ten useful! You can always let me know what to add. In order to become a resource in this kit I had the following criteria:

Free or at least a free tierMultiplatform capabilityFairly easy learning curve for teachers and studentsProvide an avenue or resource that could facilitate student centered learningProvide content and performance based standards

Now lets take a look at the second half of my collection. Please enjoy and let me know what I might add!"

Technology: I chose this resource because it has FREE resources for teachers and schools to use. This is important because a lot of our schools are on limited budgets and need resources that are easy and free so they can try them out and see what will work in their classroom setting.

Making classroom Learning Work for more students

Making classroom Learning Work for more students | 21C Learning | Scoop.it
The CEO of Enlearn argues that a digital curriculum that adjusts in real-time to the needs of individual students and teachers is the future of education.

"Recently, our partners at the Center for Game Science at the University of Washington found through their algebra challenges that nearly 95 percent of students participating were able to reach concept mastery of linear equations using the generative adaptive version of the content. But some students needed as much as six times the practice to reach those mastery levels. Furthermore, the additional practice material that any two students required was different—it was specific to each student’s unique learning pathway and progression. This means providing six times the content, tailored specifically to the moment-by-moment learning challenges of each student. A fixed text is incapable of generating any new content, let alone six times the content.

How technology can address Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs

How technology can address Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs | 21C Learning | Scoop.it

A major criticism I have of most educational institutions is that their primary focus is on students’ intellectual and cognitive development.  Too often individual learner’s needs do not enter into the equation of their educations. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs is a useful model for educators to use to help insure that they are addressing more of the whole child.

12 Ways To Use Padlet In Your Classroom Tomorrow!

12 Ways To Use Padlet In Your Classroom Tomorrow! | 21C Learning | Scoop.it
Let me introduce you to one of my new go-to tech tools: Padlet. It's free, it's easy-to-use, and it's awesome. Oh, and did I mention... no signup needed? Padlet is essentially a digital poster that can be individually or collaboratively created. Simply visit the website and click "Create" to get started building your "wall" today. Then,…

The Padlet is good to use when all the students have an internet connected device, a tablet, for example, and they have go in for audience polls, and short answers. The results and the responses can be seen by all on a screen in the classroom. All our classrooms have wifi and projectors which can be connected to laptops.

Padlet, c'est un chouette outil. A utiliser, surtout aussi pour son aspect visuel.
Leslie Varela's curator insight, November 14, 2016 11:47 PM
In my opinión this interesting tool contributes to create a good atmosphere where students can interact and share their knowledge and investigations with the whole class. Personally, I would like to use this tool in three different ways: 1) Create a feedback wall where students can post suggestions and express concerns anonymously. 2) Build a matching exercise on the wall and have students rearrange the photos and text to solve, and 3) Create a digital map and have students post their findings about new cultures. The main idea is to teach the topics using other alternatives in order to motivate students participation.

The New World of Marketing and Storytelling

The New World of Marketing and Storytelling | 21C Learning | Scoop.it
A new model is needed for our increasingly non-linear world.

Via Dr. Karen Dietz

Dr. Karen Dietz's curator insight, June 10, 2014 12:22 PM

There are 2 basic ways these days to approach storytelling in marketing and sales:

  1. Sharing stories generates deeper relationships, which builds more advocacy sales (long term thinking)
  2. Sharing a story generates a sale (transactional storytelling), which is more short-term thinking. Relationships be damned.

This article argues for more of #1 -- deeper relationships to build deeper longer-lasting affinity. And the authors give all the reasons why based on how buying decisions and the customer journey has radically changed over the last few years.

It's a mind-bender for sure. As the authors Mark Boncheck and Cara France state, "Marketers who think that advocacy comes after purchase are missing the new world of social influence." Today's purchase path is non-linear and multi-dimensional. Treating marketing and sales as a linear".

"I tell you a story, you buy my product/service" will only take you so far and it's a short journey. Yet it takes awhile to get our heads wrapped around the changes in buyer decision-making and its implications for marketing and sales.

Let's all get smarter about better ways to connect with audiences with stories that build wider advocacy, long term loyalty, and huge fans. Read this article to help shift your thinking.

malek's curator insight, June 11, 2014 9:22 AM
