Dutch gallery Foam has announced the winner of its "Foam Paul Huf Award":https://www.foam.org/talent/foam-paul-huf-award for emerging young photographers. "Romain Mader":http://stereotyp.es/, born in 1988 in Switzerland, has been awarded the €20,000 prize and an exhibition in Foam for his “naive” and “absurd” images.

Swiss designers are eligible to take part in the Swiss Design Competition. The Federal Design Commission appoints the jury. It is assisted by prominent experts.
Since 2012 the age limit of 40 has been lifted.
The competition will take place in two rounds. In the first round the participants will submit a dossier to the jury. The selected competitors will then be invited to take part in a second round in which they will present their work. On this occasion the jury will name the prize winners. The total prize money is 25,000 francs. Some 18 prizes are awarded each year.

Paris Photo and Aperture Foundation are pleased to announce the winners of the 2014 edition of the Paris Photo–Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Awards, celebrating the book’s contribution to the evolving narrative of photography. Hidden Islam by Nicoló Degiorgis is the winner of $10,000 in the First PhotoBook category. The selection for this year’s new category, Photography Catalogue of the Year, is the separately published, matched set of catalogues Christopher Williams: The Production Line of Happiness and Christopher Williams: Printed in Germany by Christopher Williams, while Imaginary Club by Oliver Sieber is the winner of PhotoBook of the Year. A special mention in that category goes to Vytautas V. Stanionis’s Photographs for Documents.

The Prix VIRGINIA is organized by the Association SYLVIA S. It recognizes the work of a woman photographer.
Awarded every other year, beginning in 2012, the Prix Virginia is open to all living professional women photographers, regardless of age or nationality, with the exception of photojounalisms and advertising. In 2012, the British photographerLiz Hingley, won the Prix VIRGINIA, with her series which focus on poverty in the UK.

Applicants may submit their works before May, 16 2014. The Winner will be announced in October 2014.

Yesterday, a journalist from overseas asked me whether the Oscar season seems too long or distorts the world of movies by focussing too much attention on the race. Of course, what matters is movies—their substance and style, not whether they’ll win a prize. But those prizes sometimes contribute in significant ways to the movies that get made thereafter, even as the very notion of an Oscar season distorts the release schedule and sometimes pushes movies deserving of wide acclaim into relative obscurity.

Every year the Laboratoire Picto holds the Prix de la Jeune Photographie de Mode. Last Wednesday, the jury met to select nine finalists and a winner of the 17th edition of the festival. The awards were given out the same tonight at Piper Pan in Paris.

After much debate, the young Belgian photographer Charlotte Abramow was awarded 1st prize, with Solene Ballesta and Victoire Le Tarnec winning 2nd and 3rd prize, respectively. (It was a good day for women in the profession.)

In 2005, Alain Bisotti, communications manager of the association Hôtels Paris Rive Gauche, founded the project Photo d’Hôtel, Photo d’Auteur (Hotel Photo, Artist Photo). I still remember back in 2005 when Alain came to see me with a presentation under his arm and a pot of honey harvested from the beehives on the rooftops of his Parisian hotels.
