Amazon has just sent out an email to authors and publishers that states "eBook season is just getting started. With so many new E-readers being unwrapped this month, there's never been a better time to start promoting your eBooks." If you are not aware, Amazon is referring their own pay per click advertising program that helps with discoverability when users are typing in keyboards in the search bar or a text/image based ad unit. Amazon sold over 412 million Kindle books in the United States last year and controls roughly 85% of the entire market. If you are an author or publisher it makes sense to advertise where the vast majority of readers are. [adrotate banner="6"]

Hoopla offers a subscription service to libraries where a library can pay based on how many titles are used by patrons. It's a "pay-per-use" type of service which includes movies, ebooks, and now digital comics Marvel. Hoopla today announced a new agreement with Marvel Entertainment that adds over 250 collections and graphic novels to the service. Through this agreement, patrons of participating public libraries can now borrow Marvel works like,  Thor: God of Thunder, Black Panther: A Nation Under Our Feet. Civil War, and X-Men: The Dark Phoenix Sagavia hoopla digital on their smartphones, tablets and computers. "We're thrilled to be part of hoopla digital and to expand our reach to library patrons across North America. It's a terrific way to connect with our fans and engage with a broader audience on a platform that provides a unique experience for comic book readers through innovative technology," said Marvel's Julie Gerola, VP/GM of Marketing & Digital Operations. The good news from the latest Progress in International Reading Literacy Study is that basic literacy is at an all-time high worldwide and a majority of countries have seen rising reading achievement in the last decade. The bad news is that students in the United States are bucking the trend.
