Some Pros and Cons of iPads for ELT

Some Pros and Cons of iPads for ELT | EAP, ELT and EFA | Scoop.it

From a quick comparison of these two lists it may well look like the benefits far outweigh the disadvantages, but those disadvantages are BIG, especially the cost. If you are thinking of introducing iPads in your school, then I think by far the best way to start is just by having a few in the teachers’ staff room and letting the teachers explore them and see what they can do with them. If this can generate some enthusiasm then you could be on your way to having a 21st century language school.

Coming as I do from a background in language teaching that emphasises that the teacher should shut up and get the students to do the talking, I often feel uncomfortable doing conference presentations, many of which still follow the format of; speaker gets up in front of audience with presentation - does presentation - audience listen (try to stay awake) and desperately try to think of a few questions at the end to prove they were awake and listening.

Debbie Ruston - The Success Educator's curator insight, April 24, 2013 8:48 AM

Lots of great ideas being shared by educators.  There are solutions to provide youth the type of education they require.  It is important to innovate, stop doing things the way we have always done them, utilize technology, work together and stop hanging on to the past way of doing things in education.  Change happens when people with a common vision join together to make it happen.
