The truth about marketing to women

Marketing expert Robert Craven argues that businesses need to market to women in a different way than men ― and two small-business owners offer their view
Stacy Coburn's insight:

Barletta explains how women reach purchasing decisions in a different way to men. “Men and women don’t communicate the same way, and they don’t buy for the same reasons,” she stresses. “He simply wants the transaction to take place. She’s interested in creating a relationship. Every place women go they make connections… 91 per cent of women say ‘Advertisers don’t understand us’.”

Moms Stressed Out by Pinterest | MediaPost

While Pinterest might seem like a place for caring and sharing, the female-dominated social network is actually stressing a lot of users out, according to a Today.com survey of 7,000 U.S. mothers: in fact, 42% of respondents said they suffer from “Pinterest stress,” stemming from anxiety that they can’t live up to the ideal suggested by images of domestic perfection posted on the site.

Additionally, 75% of mothers told Today.com they are their own worst critics (versus other moms). Since the stress is largely self-induced, it’s easy to imagine triggering it by looking at, say, pictures of someone else’s happy children playing in their urban rooftop vegetable garden and then the delicious healthy organic vegetable lasagna they made from scratch for their happy children who ate it all without being asked twice because it was so tasty and, well, you get the idea. Overall the mothers surveyed posted an average stress level of 8.5 out of 10 (yikes)....

How Are Moms Using Social Media (And Why Does This Matter To Marketers)? | AllTwitter | EA Target | Scoop.it

Did you know that a recent study showed that almost half (44 percent) of moms have gone on to make a purchase after a friend posted a recommendation or liked a product on a social media site?

We’ve been here before, of course (many times), but it bears repeating – moms and social media make a great mix, and if these socially savvy ladies are a demographic fit for your business then you should absolutely be engaging with them – frequently – within your marketing campaigns.

You need more proof? Moms love to share information about products. Your products. More than nine in ten (92 percent) pass along information about deals or finds to others, and 78 percent of moms follow brands on social media to get coupons and discounts (compared to 55 percent of other folk).

They’re mobile, too – 89 percent of moms use their smartphone to check social media on the move....
