Accessibility is essential for all users. Section 508 (the ADA of the Internet) has been around for a long time.  UDL is making strides in course design.  Technology is improving... Still this information may be new to many.  Watch and imagine you were dependent on technology to read online.

What is Design Thinking?

 

Design thinking is an empathy based, creative problem solving process embraced by innovators around the world for addressing complex problems. At its heart, it nurtures the ability to see a situation from someone else's point of view, engineer a solution, and then test and refine your solution based on feedback. It is one approach CSI students will use to master the California Common Core State Standards and build the adaptable thinking skills they will need for success in the 21st century workforce.

The teachings of the Dalai Lama are as important as ever when it comes to online learning and online teaching.


Caring doesn’t sound very academic and it certainly isn’t as new as Big Data. But I think any course that has a strong element of caring will retain more students than a course with low teacher-student interaction.  The key is having an involved teacher who is trained not just in the subject matter but also to listen, watch for falters, be ready to gently cajole,  try new things, and convey a sense of enthusiasm

Caring about your students, making the personal connection, demonstrating that the online learning environment is driven by the intentions of people and not machines... this is the way.
