Time to Dive in? A Chart of The Best Augmented Reality Apps to Use With Students

Time to Dive in? A Chart of The Best Augmented Reality Apps to Use With Students | E-Learning, Instructional Design, and Online Teaching | Scoop.it
Augmented reality is making some huge inroads in the field of education. More and more teachers are incorporating this relatively new technology in their classrooms. Augmented reality is also redefining the notion of learning by adding a layer of interactivity, engagement and vividness to students learning experiences. Teachers have been using augmented reality in many varied ways and across different school subjects, this post from Edutopia provides some good examples in this regard. The success of AR in education is attributed to the increasing availability of mobile apps designed specifically to help learners leverage the power of AR in their learning.  Below are some very good AR apps to try out with your students. This is a work in progress and we will be adding more to the list in the future. Enjoy

Augmented reality allows someone to add another layer to an existing image.  For example, imagine holding your phone over a poster on the wall as if you were going to take a photo of that poster, and then instantly a video starts playing to offer you additional information about that particular poster.  Pretty cool, right?  The first time it happens, it seems like magic.

Steve Rosenbaum:

Google Glass is hardly the question. Sure, it's a device. But the truth lurking behind Google Glass isn't a debate about whether it will succeed or fail. Google has had tough luck so far with hardware, as both Google TV and Google Nexus 1 were big bets that didn't quite meet up to the promise. But Google Glass is different. Because, if you look at the challenges and problems we face in our daily lives today, it's abundantly clear that we're moving rapidly toward A World Made of Glass, and the devices will hardly matter.
