Kuedo – Severant (Planet Mu)

Kuedo – Severant (Planet Mu) | Dubstep | Scoop.it

Jamie Teasdale, formerly one half of dubstep duo Vex’d, is now working solo as Kuedo. Fittingly released on Mike Paradinas’ Planet Mu record label, it harkens back to the mid-1990′s Artificial Intelligence series of albums on Warp that led to the somewhat unfortunate genre name of “IDM.” There are certain keywords that appear to be obligatory when talking about this album, so let’s get them out of the way: Vangelis, Blade Runner, Tangerine Dream, Carly Simon, Tony’s Theme From Scarface, Chicago’s footwork, and ‘coke rap’. There we go. Whoops, nearly forgot 808. That’s better.

Headphone Commute’s Best of 2011 : Music For Vibrating Your Neighbors’ Dusty China

Headphone Commute’s Best of 2011 : Music For Vibrating Your Neighbors’ Dusty China | Dubstep | Scoop.it

Music evolution spins in cycles. A new development in sound hoards a following of copycats, too anxious to proliferate the world with the nuclear output of their laptops. There are some that fail. There are some that surf along with the wave before it breaks, emerging from nowhere and receding back to nothing. And then there are some who push the genre just a tiny bit further. Here’s to the pioneers of the continuously evolving bass sound, helping me keep my neighbors far away…

Orangewarrior – Chilled Dubstep Mix

It’s getting chilly out there… Here’s something to drop into your coffee as you wake up all hot-headed and ready to take on the world. Whether you want to chill out with these beats, or (as in my case) just waking up and need something to give you that tiny boost, I promise you will enjoy this mix from Orangewarrior. As the tired genre dips off further into the dance floor territory, the listeners at home have rightfully claimed their own branch. Call it post-dubstep, call it GhostStep, call it what you want… to us these are just “afternoon mellow vibes of laid back beats & bass – bubbling away but never quite tipping over into the dancefloor area…”

Ital Tek - Gonga (Planet Mu)

Ital Tek - Gonga (Planet Mu) | Dubstep | Scoop.it

Ital Tek shows a massive shift in sound on the 'Gonga EP', inspired by the recent spate of footwork and mutant footwork that Planet Mu has been releasing, creating exit strategies from the current virus of the 90s inspired retro house fad.

Machinedrum - Room(s)

Machinedrum - Room(s) | Dubstep | Scoop.it

I’ve been following Machinedrum since his debut on the now defunct influential IDM label, Merck. From 2001 to 2006, Travis Stewart released five full length albums on Merck: Now You Know (2001), Urban Biology (2002), Half The Battle (2002), Bidnezz (2004) and Mergerz & Acquisitionz (2006). When Merck closed its doors in January of 2007, many artists had to scramble for a new home that would tailor to their unique sound. Stewart release his next album, titled Want To 1 2?, on Normrex in 2009. A year later, Many Faces was picked up by a brand new Glasgow-based LuckyMe label. So I was very happy to find out that Machinedrum has finally been signed to a bigger label like Planet Mu. He deserves the recognition!

Pangaea - Fatalist (Hemlock)

Pangaea turns out the lights and blesses Hemlock with two of his toughest productions yet. 'Hex' channels the spirit of '92 via Plastic People, picking up the most eccentric, deranged vocal along the way. 'Eeeeeechiiiieeee'. On the flip 'Fatalist' is a dark-side joint of the highest order... 'Alright? Listen. Listen. Listen.'

Submotion Orchestra - Always (Synkro Remix)

Also stepping in to complete the musical package is Synkro with a more minimally inspired version, which is both hypnotic and haunting. Synkro has proved himself a force to be reckoned over the last twelve months, releasing on labels such as Exit (Mosaic Music EP), Blackout Music and Med School (New Blood). Major support for Synkro has come from names like dBridge, Instra:mental, ASC, Chris Coco, Giles Peterson, Brendon Moeller, Mary Anne Hobbs, London Electricity, Kasra & many more.

Rustie – Glass Swords (Warp)

Rustie – Glass Swords (Warp) | Dubstep | Scoop.it

It seems like an awful long time since Rustie’s Jagz The Smack EP came out on Stuffrecords. Well, 4 years to be precise. Remembering to back then, his bass-heavy “aqua krunk” style of instrumental hip hop left chinstrokers unsure if this was dubstep or something similar. In 2008, I had the pleasure of seeing him and fellow Glaswegian wonky beat-maker Hudson Mohawke dj twice in Barcelona – playing mostly hip-hop with the odd bit of a wobble, but still getting everyone who was paying attention very excited indeed.

Tyanna Kimarri Holmes's curator insight, March 13, 2016 10:03 PM

This is an extra article that I added on my scoopit page. It talks about Rustie which is an artist I am not to familiar with. From my reading I did learn that Rustie main genera of focus is electronic music. Electronic music reminds me a little bit of EDM, but they are not the same.

Machinedrum - SXLND EP

This record is Travis Stewart’s most satisfying slab of dance music to date, sealing 18 months of consistently innovative releases since his Many Faces EP with us in 2010. SXLND was written in Brooklyn in the Summer of 2010 then leaked and rinsed via our friends on Rinse. Now tuned-up and engineered for 2012 these songs show the depth of Stewart in this genre.

Untold - Bones (Hemlock)

Bones skips along with a killer tambourine break underpinned by angry bass snarls. An infectious ravey synth riff and haunting vocals take the tune in and out of the shadows. Weird, Fun dancefloor material.
