Non of us escapes the aging process, so I think it just makes sense to have a medical after a certain age to ensure the physical facilties required for driving, such as reasonable eyesight and reactions are still in place. Maybe every two or three years after the age of 70?

As the owner of an MOT test station I can believe these figures from the excellent Auto express magazine. This article makes interesting reading and state that 10% of British car owners do not know that the MOT test is compulsory on cars that are after three years old.

The British government are computerising the whole system of car insuring and road tax along with the MOT test. In my opinion they would be better off aligning the three together so that you could not have one without the other. At the moment they are not aligned and you could have a car insured without an MOT test. In my opinion this will be the Governments aim as at the end of this year the road tax disc will be abolished and the system will go online, the MOT test details will probably have to be entered along with the insurance details, thus tightening up on the whole system which is at the moment flawed.

We are members of Point-S and Motor-Codes and are also a Unipart Car Care Centre and of course Tyre-safe.

I feel sorry for Charlotte, however this story really underlines how careful you need to be when buying a second hand car. If you're not totally sure of all the steps that need to be taken, employ the services of a professional vehicle inspection service for peace of mind.
