This article is good to choose for an assignment because it is simple and easy to read for kids at my age and tells small stories about the topic which makes it easy to read. This article in my opinion it would be perfect if it didn't have emotional words but the rest is really good.

I think this is a good article because it shows one side to the standardized testing debate. This specific article shows how standardized testing damages education and is not good for students. It is important to see both sides of the argument so you can form your own opinion.

This is a good source because it shows that it is written in age appropriate language. Also it has good information about the low scores children have had the last years. It says that the last tests have been a complete failure. It also has info about the stress that tests give to your students or your kids.

Why standardized testing isn't fair

-Students find it isn't fair to have the tests because it puts a lot of stress on them and they receive a poorer grade than they anticipated or wanted.
-Some students are so stressed when it comes to testing time that they drop out or get a terrible grade
-The schools that aren't the best at getting good test grades usually teach to the test, so that the students can improve their tests scores. This deprives them of having a good education.

-It doesn't serve as a far basis of one students intelligence.

-According to Gerald W. Bracey, PhD he thinks that these tests on test a small portion of what makes education meaningful in our lives. Some schools have cut down other classes time to really focus on Math and Science

-Students with dissabilities are at a big dissadvantage becasue they might have problems focasing and not getting the test done which isn't fair to them

NY: State test scores reboot React-O-Mat™ | Albany Times Union

NY: State test scores reboot React-O-Mat™ | Albany Times Union | Do standardized tests measure up? | Scoop.it

As Scott Waldman reports, New York State now considers less than a third of the students in third through eighth grade proficient in math and English, according to standardized test results released Wednesday.

Just 31 percent of students statewide passed the math and English tests. Last year, the number was 55 percent in reading and 65 percent in math.

Among black students, 16 percent are considered proficient, and for Hispanic students, 18 percent. Among those for whom English is not their first language, called English Language Learners, the numbers are even worse, just 3.2 percent proficient in English and 9.8 percent in math.

Student scores on standardized tests were widely expected to drop under new Common Core standards, a more rigorous set of national curriculum standards. State officials have been warning for months that the scores would drop precipitously.

Responses to the scores — see the full release at the bottom of this post — have begun coming in; we’ll post the new ones on top.
