I agree Crystal- That is my point behind all this. As much as I love these animals in a weird obsessive way, I would never put myself in danger of keeping one as a pet.
Michele Torbik's comment, June 27, 2014 2:19 PM
Monkeys are very cute and seems very cuddly when I see them at the zoo, but id have to agree with this article, monkeys should not be house pets due to at some point they will revert back to their wild life ways.
Courtney McGuire's comment, June 27, 2014 3:45 PM
I know looks can be deceiving.. But we can't expect them to act the way we expect them to once they step inside the home.

First of all, what a wickedly adorable picture. That drew me right in. I think it is an interesting thing to dedicate your life to, teaching wilderness survival skills to orphaned orangutans. But in the global society and ecosystem in which we live, every species plays in integral role and it is important we look after our furry friends and what is best for them, not necessarily our selfish intentions as pet owners.
Courtney McGuire's comment, June 23, 2014 10:55 PM
Exactly, that's what I'm trying to prove. Yes, many of us would not take in a monkey as a pet, but you'd be surprised with the bunch of selfish people that do thinking they're doing good for the monkey.

Willy the chimpanzee was illegally taken from his jungle home and sold as a pet. Now, he is in the safe hands of staff at the Tchimpounga sanctuary.
Courtney McGuire's insight:

My exact point! What society doesn't realize is that just because they cannot defend themselves or say do not take me away does not give them any right to be taken away from their home. Put yourself in their paws- how would you feel if someone just took you away and tried to sell you as a pet , but you were not pet-worthy due to your hyperactive lifetstyle and urge to fling feces at whoever and swing tree to tree. Do you want to be living in someone else's bathroom? I definitely wouldn't want to that's for sure!
