Sometimes you need an archive of a site. Gret for slow bandwidth areas when you just want to show an aspect of a site. Here is how.

Mobilizing Knowledge to Create Convenient Learning Moments

Mobilizing Knowledge to Create Convenient Learning Moments | Distance and Virtual Learning | Scoop.it

Chunks, bits and short modules make learning more manageable and easier to integrate into long-term memory. Long classroom or web-based training courses may accomplish the function of training, but rarely achieve desired retention rates. Instead of just dumping information on the learner, employees are expecting the content to be easy to find, relevant and digestible in the way their brains process information.

The Internet Killed the Classroom Star

The Internet Killed the Classroom Star | Distance and Virtual Learning | Scoop.it

As technology advances, industries must adapt or risk being left behind. The music industry faced this with the advent of MTV in the early 1980s, and higher education is becoming affected today.

Leo Havemann's curator insight, September 10, 2013 5:23 AM

Video may have killed the radio star, but what were the implications for live music? I'm not sure equating classroom with radio and internet with music video is telling us that much about what is going on in Higher Education. There is a meme circulating that suggests that HE is 'now' being disrupted by technology and must adapt - but HE has been innovating in the area of distance, blended and flexible modes for many years. The nature of the current disruption, for me, is not really about online or offline, but about the offering of free courses online that are apparently in competition with expensive courses both on and offline. This is not simply about HE adapting to the internet - it also begs the question of whether HEIs are serving their own interests, those of (would-be) 'students', of their actual students, or of corporate platform providers, in participating in this type of provision. After all, somebody has to pay for these courses which are costly to develop and teach - and if they are not then what is being cut? If what we are talking about is teacherless courses then as a 'consumer', you might say, it is OK value for the nothing you paid.

Certifying and Valuing Digital Badges is an important area to consider. Anyone can visit Credly and begin developing digital badges, and this raises the question of validity. Smartly, though, Credly will certify an “issuer” (an individual or institution offering the badge) after a thorough vetting process and an annual fee of $150. This extra layer of authentication is highly recommended.

Carlos Fosca's curator insight, August 15, 2013 9:44 AM

Alfredo Corell's curator insight, September 22, 2013 7:23 PM

What would be the future of MOOCs?

As discussed, the three sorts of MOOCs would serve different types of learners differently based on what the institutions would offer and what the learners might need and expect.

There are no clear crystal balls in accurately predicting what would emerge out of these winners, though it is for sure that the ultimate model of Higher Education would likely go with xMOOCs within the coming decade, as the demand for qualifications, formal teacher-based education is still the norm.
